What's the longest (in terms of the number of syllables) Czech word that only contains long vowels? (I've found kázání with three in a row, are there more formidable ones?)
Śnieg, zawierucha w nas

Recently I read: Samoobsluha stojí proti škole. I have learnt ...naproti škole. What's right?

Přepážka instead of okenko in a post-office or on a station.

Šla ke skříni. Why not ...do skříní?
Please correct my mistakes - auch in Deutsch.

In this sentence you can use both - 'proti' or 'naproti' means the same. But generally 'naproti' is rather used to speak about space (He was sitting opposite to me - Seděl naproti mně.). The word 'proti' can be used in more situations - to refer about someone's opinions (He's against war - Je proti válce.) or in a meaning of 'anti' prefix (anti wrinkle lotion - krém proti vráskám).

'Přepážka' is generally something that divides something (some space) but in a bank, station or a post office it's a counter. 'Okénko' is literally translated a little window. In a station, post office or a bank it refers to the fact that the clerk sits behind a window. This is typical 'okénko' in a post office

Šla ke skříni = She went to the wardrobe - she is standing in front of it.
Šla do skříně = She went into the wardrobe - she's sitting inside the wardrobe
But if you say: Šla do skříně pro kalhoty (nebo pro něco jiného) - She went to the wardrobe for trousers (or something else), she went there to take the trousers.. Than it's okay :yep:

I hope I didn't confuse you a lot :)

Just a little note - správně je: Nespletla jsi mě:)
Nepletla jsi mi - You didn't knit (something f.e. scarf) for me :))

Ahoj, mohli byste doporučit mi ňaké dobré české webové komiksy? ;-)

polszczyzna jest moją mową ojczystą (pl), Is í Gaelainn na Mumhan atá á foghlaim agam (ga) ((ga-M)), mám, myslím, dobrou znalost češtiny, rozumím a něco mluvím (cs), Jeg lærer meg bokmål på Duolingo (no-nb) (og eg ville lære nynorsk ein gong (no-nn))

One more thing, it is very unusual to use the word "podivný" in a self-reference situation. So maybe another word, like "zvláštní", would fit better. But on the other hand, I do not find it either "podivný" or "zvláštní", it's just a question, so "jednu" would be the best one.

Čau všichni!

Začím se učit česky, ale moc nevím. Čtu "Learn Czech Step by Step" a mám profesora který jde do můj dům v Sobotu. V úterý, jezdím do knihovny metrem taky uvidět profesor.

Jsem z Kanadie, a jsem v Kanadii taky.

How am I doin?

Ok, here is my correction. 8-)

Čtu "Learn Czech Step by Step" a mám učitele (or profesora, but only if it is a college or a university), který přijde v sobotu ke mně domů. V úterý taky jezdím do knihovny metrem, abych se s ním viděl. ( It is even more usual in Czech to replace a subject or an object from the previous sentence with a pronoun. Well, if we actually write a subject, of course. :D In this case I used s ním instead of s profesorem, for example. )
Jsem z Kanady a v Kanadě taky žiju ( or bydlím ).

To avoid misinterpretation it would be the best, if you write your texts in Czech AND English.

Tak Díky, Naihonn! Já budu psát česky a anglicky. To je dobrý nápad.
Thanks a lot, Naihonn (I have no idea what the vocative of that would be. LOL). I will write in Czech and English. That's a good idea.

I've been learning Czech for two months, it's fun. My Professor works at the University of Toronto, that's why shes good at teaching . Learning Czech is difficult, because I cannot speak Czech with the people here. My girlfriend understands Czech, but cannot speak or read. Well... I say something Czech and she tells me when it was right.

It seems contradictory. 8-) )

Děkuji...

This will be easier in English for me. heh:

Well, Katerina's parents and her Czech friends speak to her in Czech, and she understands, but she can't respond, she just responds in English. Its really weird and frustrating when your trying to learn it!!! She can barely read (very slow, I'm actually better than her at reading Czech).

She can watch Czech movies without subtitles and understand everything and tell me what's going on, but she couldn't "repeat that line?" if you asked her a million times... lol.

I guess she's a very peculiar case. Basically I make up sentences and say them to her and she nods or shakes her head no, then I try again. Since she can't actually correct me, she just says if its right or wrong.

As I said, in six months we will be flying to Prague for vacation. Can you tell me any places where no one speaks English?
