Postby Trapy » 2008-09-04, 14:28

Zdravo! Kako ste? Je sam Trapy. U^cim srpski. Razumem engliski. do vid`enja!

I'm going to see how much I can learn and maintain in one day. I've got all day. Late start, but it's 9.25 am, been working for about 20 minutes.

I haven't gotten the keyboard layout yet, and am making flashcards later, but please help me with my mistakes! What little Czech and russian I knew is making this a bit easier, but still, I keep wanting to talk like an Italian (have not heard many Bos/Serb/Croat accents in native language). All help appreciated :D

Oh, and serbianschool.com rocks!

Well, It's like a sampler. If I like it, I'll keep at it. If I don't, it's just 1 day. Also just curious how well I can learn a language in one day and then remember it the next one :).

Verb conjugation is a big thing for me at the moment.

Did I do this right?
Jesam gladan. Volim Pizza. Jestam Pizza.
(I'm hungry. I like Pizza. I am eating Pizza.)

Forget the longer variant of the verb to be, you won't need it unless you want to emphasize something. Alternatively you could say "Gladan sam" if you don't want to use the pronoun.
For most verbs (and especially those in -sti) you have to memorize the present form as well along with the infinitive.
And of course you have to use cases. Pica is the most common spelling (c pronounced as ts), but this is ok in informal texts.

@Trapy: Construction "Volim da..." cannot go with infinitive. It riquires present tense. "Volim da govorim o..." That is in Serbian language. In Croatian, there is no "da". It is avoided. So, the correct sentence would be "Volim govoriti o..." That kind of construction, without "da", can have infinitive.
