Zorba wrote:Magazin - Suze krijem - 1988
= I cry tears (what's the infinitive of the verb? Does it really mean 'to cry'?)

No, kriti means to hide, its the imperfective variant of the verb sakriti.

Zorba wrote:Da mi je još jednom
s tobom krenuti
I am still alone
When I see you off

Nope, it means something like "If I could only go with you just one more"

Zorba wrote:evo ide zadnja zora
moramo se rastati
evo ide zadnja zora

There the last dawn goes
We must part (why isn't rastati in my dictionary?)
There goes the last dawn

Ok

Zorba wrote:nećemo je čekati
Waiting for nothing (?)

We won't wait for it. (well, her, since zora is feminine)

Zorba wrote:Ref.
Ja suze krijem, one padaju
ja drugom idem, one ne daju
i neka teku, neka svako zna
nek' ti kazu kad ne mogu ja

I hide tears and they fall
I'm going to the other (man), they don't let me do that
And let them flow, let everyone know
Let them (the tears) tell you when I can't

Ja ne idem tamo
kuda ideš ti
izdrzalo srce ne bi
kada bi se vidjeli
izdržalo srce ne bi
kada bi se susreli

I'm not going to
the same place that you're going
My heart wouldn't be able to stand it
If we saw each other
My heart wouldn't be able to stand it
If we met

The usage of bi instead of bismo for the 1st person plural is quite non-standard, but many speakers use it. Perhaps its some poetic licence here.

Zorba wrote:New words for me:

suza = tear,

It's not really that different from the Russian sleza. In standard BCS, the old slavic syllabic l gave an u.

Compare: Солнце -> Sunce, волк -> vuk, жёлтый (practically жoлтый) -> žut, полный -> pun.

I worked out most of the following song with the help of a dictionary and an online translation, but can you help me with the few words in bold? (Both meaning and tense/person for verbs and gender/number/case for nouns). What a wonderful song. Thank you.

Nekako s proljeća - Crvena Jabuka

Nekako s proljeća
Uvijek meni doluta
Neka čežnja tamna
Tiha mudrost davna
Spuštam ja stare kofere
Na perone sudbine
To je miris zrelih godina
Moj kaput baš je težak najdraža

Nekako s proljeća
Ja se sjetim starih drugova
Probude se u meni
Svi derneci pijani
Tad nosim stare cipele
One znaju moje ulice
To je boja crnoponoćna
Moji koraci baš su teški najdraža

I OPET TAJ OSJEĆAJ SAMOĆE
KAD NEĆE NIKOG MENE KRENE I HOĆE

I OPET MRAKOM SVOJE PJESME BOJIM
PIJAN OD ŽELJE ZA USNAMA TVOJIM

SAV SAM TI OD LUDILA

NEKAKO S PROLJEĆA

Nekako s proljeća
Sjeti mene nepravda
Na pobjede poraze
I sve lažne obzire
Napravim račun praštanja
Popijem pusta maštanja
To je ukus lijepog kajanja
Moji kapci baš su teški najdraža

Nekako s proljeća
Noć mi oči otvara
Nemam san da uhvatim
Nema dana da ne izgubim
A hoću, da te vodim ja
Tragom sunca, jugom maslina

To je dodir bedara

Moja dušo baš te voli najdraža

SAV SAM TI OD LUDILA
BEZ TEBE S PROLJEĆA

I just stumbled upon this thread, so I'll try to translate the parts I can make sense of:

Zorba wrote:I worked out most of the following song with the help of a dictionary and an online translation, but can you help me with the few words in bold? (Both meaning and tense/person for verbs and gender/number/case for nouns). What a wonderful song. Thank you.

Nekako s proljeća - Crvena Jabuka

Nekako s proljeća
Uvijek meni doluta
doluta=comes to me (more precisely, something like "happens to come to me from far away")
The verb is dolutati = to come to someone in a haphazard and wandering manner
It is a perfective verb, the tense is present, 3SG

Neka čežnja tamna
Tiha mudrost davna
Spuštam ja stare kofere
Na perone sudbine
To je miris zrelih godina
Moj kaput baš je težak najdraža

Nekako s proljeća
Ja se sjetim starih drugova
Probude se u meni
Svi derneci pijani
derneci = parties. [nominative, masculine, plural] This is a Sarajevo colloquialism

pijani = drunk(en) masculine, plural, nominative, positive (as this is an adjective)

derneci pijani = drunken parties

Tad nosim stare cipele
One znaju moje ulice
To je boja crnoponoćna
Moji koraci baš su teški najdraža

I OPET TAJ OSJEĆAJ SAMOĆE
KAD NEĆE NIKOG MENE KRENE I HOĆE

Paraphrasing here: Even when it doesn't happen to anybody else (= kad neće nikog), it starts happening to me.

I OPET MRAKOM SVOJE PJESME BOJIM
PIJAN OD ŽELJE ZA USNAMA TVOJIM

SAV SAM TI OD LUDILA

I'm totally crazy (literally "all made up of craziness")

NEKAKO S PROLJEĆA

Nekako s proljeća
Sjeti mene nepravda
Na pobjede poraze
I sve lažne obzire
Napravim račun praštanja
Popijem pusta maštanja
daydreaming, musings (plural, accusative, feminine)

I honestly have no idea what "popijem pusta maštanja" is supposed to mean. I'd certainly never say anything like this. Bolek, help!

To je ukus lijepog kajanja
Moji kapci baš su teški najdraža

Nekako s proljeća
Noć mi oči otvara
Nemam san da uhvatim
Nema dana da ne izgubim
A hoću, da te vodim ja

I want to take you
Tragom sunca, jugom maslina

On the sun's path (or, really, "where there is sunshine", what we would refer to as "down south" here in Canada :)

tragom = instrumental, masculine, singular. trag = trace, but also path, way, route

sunca = genitive, singular, neuter (of the sun)

"Jugom maslina" has got to be poetic license, as it literally means "with the south of the olives" and sounds ungrammatical (more precisely, very unusual) to me. It means "down south where olive trees grow". Jugom = instrumental, masculine, singular; maslina = feminine, plural genitive

To je dodir bedara

It's the touch of your(I assume he means the girl he is singing to) thighs.

(btw. I had to look up "bedro" in a dictionary. I have been unsure as to its precise meaning my whole life (i.e. I had no idea whether it meant "thigh" or "buttock")

dodir = touch, masculine, plural, genitive
bedara = neuter, plural, genitive

Moja dušo baš te voli najdraža

SAV SAM TI OD LUDILA
BEZ TEBE S PROLJEĆA
"I used to think the brain was the most fascinating part of the body. Then I realized, well, look what's telling me that."

Translation for the Bebi Dol's song "Lapis Lazzuli", molim!

Odmah iza ponoci dolazis mi tiho ti
iz svog sveta grehova dolazi moj Jehova
u crnom plastu greha svog, vreba kao macka on
propinje se izvija,vatrom me obavija

U grudima trazi zlato,za to bi i oci dao
al krijem ga ispod brda, nece ga naci
da preplovi sedam mora, da preleti sedam
gora, da trazi jos mnogo vise, nece ga naci

U prvom casu mislim ja,da hrabra sam i da ga znam,da mogu ga nadmudriti, varkom ga opciniti
sve dok me ne dodirne, tad uzbudi mi zmije te
dah vrelih zenskih prstiju, predajem se,ima me

U grudima trazi zlato...al pliva u zutom blatu,nece ga naci,da preplovi...nece ga naci
U mrklom mraku on i ja,jedno naspram drugoga
gde su dani ljubavi,u sta se pretvorili?
U sedmoglave azdaje i sve barske duhove
sto lete svud po sumama, podvodnim dubinama
U grudima trazi zlato,za to bi i dusu dao
odjednom se greha boji,ljubavnik,kazne
da preplovi...nece ga naci
Lagano noci dodje kraj, kroz okno cujem zore dah, vidim gde se primice s telom kao vreteno
oko vrata vezuje mi meseceve pantljike i
ko kamen baca me u podvodne vrtove
dok lebdim po dubinama,on vec je na planinama
ka svom svetu grehova bezi sad moj Jehova
Na dnu tad videh cudan,lep,u belom prepun zena svet,belih i mirisljavih,podvodnih i
providnih
Rusalke, vile recne, vas molim da primite me i date mi snagu da prebolim sto pre
da idemo svud na brda, igramo sve do jutra da ljubav pokopam svoju, znam da je kraj
rusalke, vile recne vas molim da primite me
na brda do zivog peska-njemu je kraj
i mrtav on trazi zlato sto nikad ga nije naso
Rusalke,znajte,u strahu njegov je kraj!

Could someone translate?
BOJAN BJELIC (TO NIJE LJUBAV)

Tako lako, mala, ti to radis najbolje
srce samo pokidas kao sav od kosulje
tako lako, mala, ti si pela me na sto
a jos lakse rekla si, s tobom mi je dosadno

Dim od cigarete mi u oci ulazi
gde god da se okrenem tu si nasmejana ti
sada s mojim drugom svako vece izlazis
reci sta to ima on sto na meni ne vidis

Ref.
Kako to mozes, mala
da pored mene ljubis ga
bezobrazno bez casti
ma, nije ni on bolji
tek sada vidim
kol'ko musko moze nisko pasti

Kako to mozes, mala
a ja tek sada vidim
za to stvarno imas dara
jer ti se moze, mala
i cak si uspela
da posvadjas i dva drugara

To nije ljubav vec prica stara
sladje su usne kada svadja dva drugara
ne brini mala, bezbrizna budi
Bog ce da sudi

So easy, baby, you do it the best way,
You just rip my heart as a seam of a shirt.
So easy, baby, you put me on the table,
and even easier you said: "I feel bored with you".

Dim od cigarete mi u oci ulazi
gde god da se okrenem tu si nasmejana ti
sada s mojim drugom svako vece izlazis

Cigar smoke penetrates my eyes,
Wherever I turn - there you are smiling.
Now you go out with my friend every evening.
Tell me what he has that you don't see in me.

How can you do that, baby,
To love him next to me,
Shameless with no respect,
But he's not any better.
Only now I realise
How deep a man can fall.

Kako to mozes, mala
a ja tek sada vidim
za to stvarno imas dara
jer ti se moze, mala
i cak si uspela
da posvadjas i dva drugara

How can you do that, baby,
Only now I see
That you've got a real talent for that,
For you think it's OK, baby,
And you've even succeded
To put two friends in a fight.

To nije ljubav vec prica stara
sladje su usne kada svadja dva drugara
ne brini mala, bezbrizna budi
Bog ce da sudi

That is not love but an old story,
Lips are sweeter when two friends are put in a fight,
Don't worry, baby, be happy,
God will judge.

Bojan Bjelic - Ostavi me

Postby Avalon » 2008-02-29, 21:34

Bojan Bjelic - Ostavi me

Na tanak led si me navukla
lagala vesto da me volis
gde si stigla tu si se i svukla
zar jos imas obraza da molis.

Od tebe necu nista vise
jer nista nisi mi ni dala,
ako me ostavis veceras
ljubazno reci cu ti hvala.

Refren:

Ostavi me, ostavi me
zaboravi moje ime, adresu, broj
kad te molim ostavi me
ostavi me,
ja sa drugom cu se snaci
jer nikada nigde goru necu naci.

Prljave usne ja ne ljubim
i mutne oci ja ne gledam,
jos uvek imam cistu dusu
i nisam lud da ti je predam.

Od tebe necu nista vise
jer nista nisi mi ni dala,
ako me ostavis veceras
ljubazno reci cu ti hvala.

Refren:

Ostavi me, ostavi me
zaboravi moje ime, adresu, broj
kad te molim ostavi me.
Ostavi me,
ja sa drugom cu se snaci
jer nikada nigde goru necu naci.

Ovo mi je škola

Postby vmbentley » 2008-03-18, 20:31

Can anyone translate this song for me?

Ovo mi je škola
I drugi puta ću pametnije
Jer fališ mi do bola
I znam da bit će još i bolnije
Jer svaka ljubav nova
Ruši vjeru u tebe
Ovo mi je škola
I drugi puta ću pametnije

Oooo ooo

Koje su to riječi
Što su meni sišle s usana
Ne poznajem ni jednu
Što bi kazni ovoj bila jednaka

Jer su osveta i ponos
Dvije sestre blizanke
Rođene u ponoć
Jedna malo prije, a druga kasnije

Ako ikad vratim vjeru u tebe
Oooo ooo
I onda lažna nada nikne za mene

Na poljima od snova
Ne pušta se korijenje

Ovo mi je škola
I drugi puta ću pametnije

Ovo mi je škola
I drugi puta ću pametnije
Jer fališ mi do bola
I znam da bit će još i bolnije

Jer su osveta i ponos
Dvije sestre blizanke
Rođene u ponoć
Jedna malo prije, a druga kasnije.

Can someone please translate this song for me.. ? Saban Saulic sings it! I have heard that it is a very beautiful and sad song :(

Majko sve ti oprastam

Nisi me videla, od rodjena
samo si rekla do vidjenja
ocu mom
i otisla u drugi dom

Ja necu reci, da kriva ti si
mozda se s ocem slagala nisi
ne pamtim ja
mozda si s drugim srecu pronasla

Ref.
Bila si hrabra, snagu si smogla
al' samo reci kako si mogla
bez mene sve do sad

Bila si hrabra, snagu si smogla
al' samo reci kako si mogla
da me ne vidis, bar ponekad

Znam da je otac, prica za sebe
cesto je pijan psovao tebe
cuo sam ja
mozda je bolje sto si otisla

Veruj mi ja te razumem sada
htela si zivot bila si mlada
kajes se znam
ne brini majko sve ti oprastam

Here's the translation, sorry for the delay.

Majko sve ti oprastam
Mother I forgive you everything

Nisi me videla, od rodjena
samo si rekla do vidjenja
ocu mom
i otisla u drugi dom

You haven't seen me from my birth
You only said 'good-bye'
To my father
And left to another house.

Ja necu reci, da kriva ti si
mozda se s ocem slagala nisi
ne pamtim ja
mozda si s drugim srecu pronasla

I won't say that you are the one to blame
Maybe you couldn't get along with the father
I don't remember
Maybe you found happiness with another person.

Ref.
Bila si hrabra, snagu si smogla
al' samo reci kako si mogla
bez mene sve do sad

You were brave, you found strength
But just tell me how could you
Be without me all that time up to now.

Bila si hrabra, snagu si smogla
al' samo reci kako si mogla
da me ne vidis, bar ponekad

You were brave, you found strength
But just tell me how could you
Not come to see me, at least sometimes.

Znam da je otac, prica za sebe
cesto je pijan psovao tebe
cuo sam ja
mozda je bolje sto si otisla

I know that the father, as he tells himself,
Often offended you when he was drunk
I heard it
Maybe it's better that you left.

Veruj mi ja te razumem sada
htela si zivot bila si mlada
kajes se znam
ne brini majko sve ti oprastam

Believe me, I understand you now,
You wanted your life, you were young
I know that you regret
Don't worry mother, I forgive you everything

Ovo mi je škola
I have learned something from this

I drugi puta ću pametnije
And I will be smarter next time

Jer fališ mi do bola
Because I miss you terribly

I znam da bit će još i bolnije
And I know that it will be even worse

Jer svaka ljubav nova
Because with every new love

Ruši vjeru u tebe
Faith in you is lost

Ovo mi je škola
I have learned something from this

I drugi puta ću pametnije
And I will be smarter next time

Oooo ooo

Koje su to riječi
What were the words

Što su meni sišle s usana
That I have spoken

Ne poznajem ni jednu
I can't think of any

Što bi kazni ovoj bila jednaka
That would be equal to this punishment

Jer su osveta i ponos
Because revenge and pride

Dvije sestre blizanke
Are twin sisters

Rođene u ponoć
Born at midnight

Jedna malo prije, a druga kasnije
One a bit before (the other), and the other one
later

Ako ikad vratim vjeru u tebe
If I ever regain my faith in you
Oooo ooo

I onda lažna nada nikne za mene
Then a false hope springs up for me

Na poljima od snova
On dreamfields

Ne pušta se korijenje
You can't grow roots

Ovo mi je škola
I have learned something from this

I drugi puta ću pametnije
And I will be smarter next time

Ovo mi je škola
I have learned something from this

I drugi puta ću pametnije
And I will be smarter next time

Jer fališ mi do bola
Because I miss you terribly

I znam da bit će još i bolnije
And I know that it will be even worse

Jer su osveta i ponos
Because revenge and pride

Dvije sestre blizanke
Are twin sisters

Rođene u ponoć
Born at midnight

Jedna malo prije, a druga kasnije.
One a bit before (the other), and the other one
later

"Ovo mi je škola"--- literally means "That was a school for me"

Ljeto ide, kako si mi ti?
The summer is passing, how are you?
Gdje si, s kim si, da mi je znati
where are you and with whom, if only I knew
Ko li mi te ugrijao
Who was keeping you warm
Dok je zimus snijeg padao
While it was snowing last winter
Ko li mi te ljubio?
who was kissing you?
Grom ga ubio!
may he go to hell!

Baš me briga gdje si otišla
I don't care where you went
Ravna ti je Jugoslavija
(I never understood this line :?)
Baš me briga, nisi dijete
I don't care, you're not a child
Sve u korist tvoje štete
all in your disadvantage
Samo tvoje, ali moje
only yours but my
Srce boluje
heart is in pain

Lipe cvatu, sve je isto k'o i lani
lindens are blooming, everything is like it was last year
Ej, samo srce moje i srce tvoje
hey, only my heart and your hear
U ljubavi više ne stoje
are not in love any more

Zaklinjem se dušom i Bogom
I swear by my soul and God
Krvi mojom plavom seljačkom
by my blue peasant blood
Kunem ti se i umrijeću
I swear and I will die
Ali ja te tražit' necu
but I won't go looking for you
Neću, neću, ah..umrijeću
I won't, I won't, but I will die
Ah umrijeću
Ah, I will die

"Ravna ti ja Jugoslavia" means that she does not care about anything.

Yes, the expression "ravno mi je do..." or "ravno mi je..." means something like "I couldn't care less"

hi !!!

I would like to ask you guys if you could translate a song.

It's by Tijana Dapcevic, and it's called Sve je isto, samo njega nema.

E, sjećam se kad smo svi bili Valter
i mješali malter za Brčko - Banović prugu,
a, sad kad i jaran može nosit brusalter,
vidim da nam ova demokratija baš i ne ide od ruku,
a, jesmo ba ispali papci svi od reda.

Čujem u Beogradu, se gleda Vila Marija
jedino ne kužim zakaj svi je zovu jastreb među lujkama,
A našu lipu svaki dan za Evropu udaju,
a na svakoj žurci, ka’ da smo Turci, ajme, narodnjaci furaju.

Refren:
Sve je isto samo njega nema
opet Dugme okupio Brega,
leto vrelo, zima puna snega,
sve je isto samo njega nema.

A što zna ja?
A da znam, podijelio bi ovu moju državu na 6 republika,
Ali tako da Podgorica bude glavni grad,
I da svaki dan bude neradni, osim petka
Kad bi radili na pripremi odmora za vikend

Site sigo sakav te, kraoci te plačev me,

Refren:
Sve je isto samo njega nema
opet Dugme okupio Brega,
leto vrelo, zima puna snega,
sve je isto samo njega nema.

Nam je bilo v redu ta kratin staj, nam je vidno u redu.
Za novo leto, pridemo v Beograd, gremo na espreh od šiše cveća,
Popijemo kavicu v Merkatorju, semno kako da smo pri nas doma.
Eeeeeeeej, tovariš stari, bio si fraer in pou.

A mogli smo do Tokija,nos k’o u Pinokija
Lagali nas tako svi do mile volje,al’ on lagao je najbolje.
Pesme smo mu pevali,iz Afrike ga čekali,
Imali smo more, I šta bi da nam nije, eeeej, parade Cigan je.

Refren: x3
Sve je isto samo njega nema
opet Dugme okupio Brega,
leto vrelo, zima puna snega,
sve je isto samo njega nema.

This will be a loooong post :). I will probably divide translation in three posts, here is why.

Tijana Dapčević: "Everything is the same, but he is not around"

It is about Marshal Tito and former Yugoslavia and how things were better when he was around. Every stanza is about different republic of former YU, now sovereign states- (1st) Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia; (2nd) Monte Negro and Macedonia; and 3rd stanza Slovenia and Serbia. Of course, every stanza is sung in different idiolect, characteristic for that republic. It has numerous pop-culture references, at the same time it is sad and funny with ironic twists.

E, sjećam se kad smo svi bili Valter
i mješali malter za Brčko - Banović prugu,
a, sad kad i jaran može nosit brusalter,
vidim da nam ova demokratija baš i ne ide od ruku,
a, jesmo ba ispali papci svi od reda.

I remember times when we were "Valter"
and we were making mortar (cement) for the Brčko-Banovići railroad
And today, when a "buddy" may wear a bra,
I see that this democracy is really not our thing
Ah, it turned out that we are all wallies (losers) after all.

Valter: a reference to popular Yugoslav TV-series "Walter defends Sarajevo" from the 1970s. Walter was the main character, a fictional partisan who fought the Germans in WWII and he was like some sort of a super-partisan that kicks German ass. They could never catch him.
Brčko-Banovići railroad: built in the 1950's, connecting two places in Bosnia, Brčko and Banovići. Banovići is a village located near coal mines. The railroad was the symbol of Yugoslav labourers. Organised actions of young labourers went there to build this railroad to show the unity and strength of Yugoslav state and people.
Jaran: a "buddy" in Bosnian language. You can always say that someone is from Bosnia if he/she refers to someone as "jaran". Bosnian men were considered as dumb and macho, quite opposite to any metrosexual/homosexual affinities. With the arrival of democracy, things have changed- and Bosnian men are not masculine as they used to be.

Čujem u Beogradu, se gleda Vila Marija
jedino ne kužim zakaj svi je zovu jastreb među lujkama,
A našu lipu svaki dan za Evropu udaju,
a na svakoj žurci, ka’ da smo Turci, ajme, narodnjaci furaju.

I hear that people in Belgrade watch "Villa Maria"
But I don't understand why do they refer to it as "the hawk among Ustashi".
Our Beautiful gets married to Europe every day
but on every party, as if we are the Turks, folk music is a common thing
.

Villa Maria: the first Croatian soap-opera, and the first Croatian-made TV series regularly watched in Serbia after the fall of Yugoslavia.
The hawk...: one of the main characters in Villa Maria was also a main character in a hit-series "Kapelski kresovi" in Yugoslavia. Back then, he was a partisan nicknamed "the hawk" and he is still remembered for that role in the former Yu. Why the Ustashi? Well, Serbs derogatory refer to Croats as "Ustashi" (Croatian nationalists) and Croats refer to Serbs as "Chetniks" (Serbian nationalists). Of course, both are nationalistic terms like calling Jews "Christ-killers" or something like that.
Our Beautiful: metaphor for Croatia, the Croatian national anthem is called Our Beautiful Homeland.
folk songsor narodnjaci: lots of people associate this music with Serbia and Bosnia, ergo it is bad, poisonous, not Croatian enough. Honestly, it is shitty- not because of its Bosnian/Serbian associations but it is simply bad music for me, I prefer rock. People tend to associate folk music with primitive people in Croatia. But, the truth is that it is quite popular. Clubs and bars with that music are always packed with people (Croats). Well, it is politics. Ah, the Turks are Bosnian Muslims and Serbs (derogatory, Turkish slaves or hookers.

Ref:

opet Dugme okupio Brega,
leto vrelo, zima puna snega,
sve je isto samo njega nema

Everything is the same, but he is not around
Brega gathered Dugme again
the summer is hot, the winter is snowy,
Everything is the same, but he is not around

Bijelo Dugme (White Button): One of the most popular rock bands in Yu. They were based in Sarajevo, and "Brega" is Goran Bregović, the former leader of the band. They were like the "Rolling Stones of Yugoslavia", stopped performing at the end of the 1980s (1989, or something like that). Soon, the state collapsed.[/i]
