Proofreading of a postal receipt

Postby OldBoring » 2015-02-07, 21:01

From here.

I received a receipt from the post office in China. It's bilingual Chinese/French.
But it looks like broken French, so can you guys proof-read it for me and correct it / tell me the correct French for that? :)
I'll trancribe the content here as the picture is not easy to read. I'll also write the Chinese version in case someone knows Chinese here.
Thank you in advance.

Hmm...maybe I just don't know enough about the vocabulary that post offices use (in any language, including English), but I'll try anyway. :) Just please bear in mind that these are really just my thoughts, not necessarily the truth. :P

LA POSTE CHINOISE

Apparently, 中国邮政 is just called "China Post" even in French (see https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Post, which also links to https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%AD ... E%E6%94%BF).
国际及台、港、澳函件收据
Récépissé de dépôt d’unenvoi

If I'm not mistaken, the Chinese part means "receipt of international mail or [mail] from Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macao," so I think maybe that should be something like accusé de réception de poste internationale ou de Taïwan, Hong Kong ou Macao.

I think that last line should probably be something more like Catégorie de poste (A ne compléter que pour la poste recommandée), especially since 填 means 'to fill out' (French (fr) compléter), but that's just my guess.

Mention Spéciale

I can't tell what 特别标记 is supposed to mean in this context, but I don't think mention spéciale is the right translation here. I can't even find any evidence that mention spéciale is a term that post office workers use in French. :?
  • 航空 Avion
  • 快递 Exprés

Shouldn't the first one be par avion?
资费数额
Taxe percue ____________

Hmm...资费 means 'service expenses', not 'tax', and I don't see how 数额 would change the meaning, really. :hmm: Maybe côuts perçus would be a better way of phrasing it.
收寄人员签名和收寄局日戳
Signateur de l'agent et timbre à date du bureau d’origine

I think this is fine.

There are a few errors here, but mostly this just looks like a really convoluted way of phrasing it, at least to me. :hmm: I don't know whether the convoluted phrasing is necessary in French or not (since I think it does sound more formal), but if not, then I think the best translation may be simply Cet accusé de réception peut se présenter en 6 mois.
2. 请将收件人名址填入下列格内以备查询。
Veuillez inscrire, ci—après, le nom et l’adresse du destinataire pour la réclamation éventuelle.

Should be ci-dessous, not ci-après.

Merci beaucoup, Vijay! :)

Yeah, in China everything has an official English translation, so all other languages other than English also use the English forms for Chinese addresses, institutions or companies.

If I'm not mistaken, the Chinese part means "receipt of international mail or [mail] from to Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macao," so I think maybe that should be something like accusé de réception reçu? de poste internationale ou de Taïwan, Hong Kong ou Macao.

I think you misunderstood here. It's "receipt" in the sense of "piece of paper" that they give you after you sent a mail. Not "receipt" in the sense that you received a mail.
So in French it would be reçu, right?

No. This means that you can apply for an "enquiry" (a term that the Chinese like to use... it could be translated as "tracking") your mail within 6 months, upon showing that receipt.

For the rest, I think I either agree with you or don't know enough French.

I hesitated to try this since I don't really know Chinese. However I can confirm that receipt is commonly called reçu. Accusé de réception is pretty formal and it's used to acknowledge a receiving of a letter or application by the addressee/recipient.

And tracking is repérage.

I made a slight mistake here when copying: it should be délai with the acute accent.
