Nikkud for New Vocab

Postby Gonzo » 2016-05-30, 20:14

Hi,
I'm currently amassing words for vocab sets, essentially putting together a resource for words that I actually use regularly. I've had to locate various definitions outside of my dictionaries and that usually means no nikkud - nor genders etc, but that's another issue - and I'm just wondering what the best means of finding the pronunciation for these words is. Does anyone know of anything? How did you overcome these lines of obstacles when building vocab?

Any help very much appreciated.

Have you tried Morphix, the Hebrew online dictionary?

Just had a look at it now. Looks promising, but again, no vowels for the majority of their words. Still struggling. Thanks for the reference though.

What do you mean? Morphix has vowels for all words.

And also, you were refering to your dictionaries.... All dictionaries I'm aware of do provide the nikkud. So I'm still not certain I understand your question. Any example of words your struggling with?

I'm not getting vowels in most of the definitions I am finding on Morfix, I even got the app. The dictionaries are fine, but for their dearth of technical vocab which is essential for me - along with many others not mentioned. Those which I do find online don't tend to have nikkud, so I cannot predict pronunciation. That's the problem. I have a a few thousand words without nikkud; no way of telling how they are pronounced.

Can you give some examples?
If you're looking from English to Hebrew, then you might have to look again from Hebrew to English to get the vowels.
