Hebrew Courses

Postby MiOB » 2006-06-17, 21:56

Hello everyone! :D

As I begin to make new courses in Hebrew, I'd like to ask each one of you to write what subject(s) he would like to have courses in.

You can either state your level in Hebrew, perhaps what you have learned so far, or just what you would like to learn. :)

After hearing everyone's wishes, I'd start making the new courses. :)

[rp]שלום![/rp]
[rp]שמי רברט ואני לומד עברית.[/rp]

This is actually my first time back to Unilang. I used to be here a lot last fall, but then school work became too much and I didn't have time anymore. Now that school's ended, I'm back :) I've been learning hebrew for a while on and off, and I've started more seriously again. I'm so excited that the Hebrew forum has really taken hold and gotten quite active. I'm currently on Lesson 4 of Colloquial Hebrew (I love this book!). I'd love to keep practicing my Hebrew, and any lessons that you come up with appropriate for my level would be much appreciated!

As you can see, this forum is pretty much not active.
It took me a real hard time to squeeze replies from members,
and for every reply I say "AMEN! :praise:". :lolhuh:

As you can see, even for such a thread, where I really wanted to do good for Hebrew learners, members did not even bother to post a simple reply. I've waited a week and have put it as "announced", so that everyone will have a chance to notice it, but, nada. :noclue: Yes, it causes frustration, but I've gotten used to it. :haha:

Since I myself don't own the book, could you write about your current topic? Or, could you refer me to an online version of it? :)

Well I certainly appreciate how much effort you put into this section. Even if I don't have much time for Unilang, I always make sure to read the Hebrew forum ;)

This is what I've covered so far:

The prepositions ב, מ, ל
Definiteness ה
Demonstratives זה זאת
אפשר / אי אפשר
צריך
ש
Numbers, masculine and feminine
את
Plurals
A few food-words (tomatoes, apples, lemons etc...)

As you can see, I'm still a real beginner, but I've been having a lot of fun with it.

(PS I saw the new שי גבסו CD came out lol. I want to order it soon, but it's going to take a few weeks for me to get it...ah well. I listened to the previews of each song online though and I think I'll really like it :) )

Hi Omri,

I am a beginner, but a real one. I just started letters, square ones only, and I am still struggling with some of them.

I'd love our courses to be like the following: A first lesson about a few letters, how to write them in all forms, then a vocabulary lesson using these letters, then another lesson of letters, followed by a review, before moving to more letters. Then once all letters grasped completely, and having a small vocabulary, we can move to simple grammar lessons, with simple conversations.

I hope that suits other learners, so that we all get working on the same course.

Toda. :--)

MiOB, May I suggest that you make a sticky specifically for speaking/conversations in Hebrew? I know they have something similar in the Finnish forum (This thread) and it has 42 pages now. The arabic forum had one too though now it's on the 3rd page

Good idea Nero. I am going to revive that thread in the Arabic forum, hopefully people will get interested in it again. :--)

Thanks.

Good idea MiOB and good luck. It's very kind of you that you want to teach people. Perhaps you are a teaching freak like me (since very early age I wanted to become a teacher  ). I think that teaching all of us together would be impossible though since everyone is in a different level and asks for different things. Personally I would be much interested in irregular verbs in future tense. They're my main trouble right now. But I prefer to ask about these at my personal thread so that I have a quick reference there. So, I'll soon start asking there  . I'll keep an eye in this thread too though, since I'm sure I'll find something new to learn. Kol hakavod

And that's surely ok by me. :)

How about three threads of courses: beginner, intermediate and advanced level? Is that a lot of work?
It'll be nice to decide after some time who's moving from beginners to intermediate, from the latter to advanced, or else that someone has become fluent in Hebrew. That will be very exciting.

I'd love to have a thread of songs in Hebrew with lyrics and translation; the link of the songs can be on youtube. And maybe to make everybody contribute, advanced learners may suggest songs, try to write the lyrics and translate them, and beginners ask questions about grammar, and so on.

Toda Omri. :--)

How would you spell Omri in Hebrew, just out of curiosity...

Would it be: אמרי ?

No, it's: עמרי
O refers to an 'ayin', not an 'alif'.
Omri will be proud of me.
