Understanding Swedish so a little Icelandic here and there, I came across the following strange word in an old article on Nordic history by an author called "Cwænað" which has left me intrigued as I thought at first it was Icelandic then perhaps Anglo Saxon even perhaps Gaelic, finally wondering if perhaps all these languages originally stemmed from a common origin as Google Translate couldn't help.

Any ideas and thoughts etc. much appreciated....
