KarenRei, with that impressive one-in-a-million CV, isn't it a bit far-fetched to apply for a job in Iceland? Sorry for asking, I assume you have a very passionate interest for Iceland. :)

Hæ!
I'd like to read your suggestions about the following statement in Icelandic:
The ticket must be validated (or punched) immediately on boarding
Uczmy się języków obcych!
Let's learn foreign languages!
Učimo se tujih jezikov!
Aprenguem llengües estrangeres!
外国語を習いましょう!

Hi guys,
may you translate the following* into Icelandic, please:
(English: ) «Did you like the story? Do you want to hear it again?»
+
(Føroyskt: ) Dámdi tær søguna? Vilt tú hoyra hana aftur?
(French: ) Tu as aimé cette histoire? Tu veux la réentendre?
(Italian: ) T'è piaciuta la storiella? La vogliamo ripetere? (= «Would you like for me to tell it again?»)

*I put four languages for you to work out the better way to convey the message of the two questions.
Thank you in advance,
Giacomo /ˈʤa.ko.mo/

It's not that hard to guess the Icelandic translation when you have the sentences translated into Faroese but still I might have mistakes.

Líkaði þér við söguna? Viltu heyra hana aftur? sounds a little more contemporary according to a friend. But both of them work :)

Does anyone know if there's an Icelandic equivalent of the name 'Catharine'?

Today I've read that «á» besides being a proposition has such an interesting meaning:

to have a rest during the journey, laying on the grass while horses are grazing

Can anyone confirm this?

Wow, this forum is so dead :P I can't confirm this, but it should also mean "river".

I'll try translating since no one else is here. I'll include Norwegian too for the sake of comparison.

[flag]sv[/flag] "Jag gav vinet till min vän"
"Vem gav du vinet till?"
[flag]da[/flag] "Jeg gav vinen til min ven"
"Hvem gav du vinen til?"
[flag]no-nb[/flag] "Jeg ga vinen til vennen min"
"Hvem ga du vinen til?"
[flag]no-nn[/flag] "Eg gav vinen til venen min"
"Kven gav du vinen til?"
[flag]is[/flag] "Ég gaf vininum mínum vínið"
"Hverjum gafst þú vínið?"

My fantasy football league held our draft in Reykjavik this year, so I am giving Icelandic names for the two divisions in our league. Unfortunately their normal names are 'Butthole' and 'Bungaliod' so I feel obligated to remain as vulgar.

I would like the Icelandic phrases for the following terms:

Drunken fool (as vulgarly as possible)
Butt glacier. (Is Sitjandijökull correct Icelandic?)

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I am trying to get an accurate translation of the English phrase:

"Aliens Need Love Too"

in Icelandic, please.

The 'Aliens' refers to extraterrestrial life forms from other planets rather than foreign nationals if this is relevant to the translation.

The only translation I have obtained so far is: geimverur þurfa ást líka, but I have no idea if this is even close or whether some words should be capitalised, etc.

If anyone is able to help I would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Fallen Apples
