Er war pingelig gekleidet und als er gesprochen hat, hat er mit einem Akzent so genau gesprochen, dass es konnte fast englisch sein.

I would just like to point out that this translation is wrong. It should say something like this:

Sie spielten gut genug, um zu gewinnen; nur hatten Sie kein Glück. / Sie spielten gut genug, um zu gewinnen; nur hatten Sie nicht das notwendige Glück.
