Locative of "kas"

Postby 0stsee » 2008-08-05, 17:33

Sveiki!

Wiki says:
kas "who, what" has the same declension (as tas), but it has only singular forms (and no locative form, with the adverb kur "where" used instead).

So how do you say:
"Whom/what are you looking at?" and "Whom/what are you listening to?" :?:
=
"Kur tu skaties?" and "Kur tu klausies?" :?:

Because skatiities and klausiities are both followed by locative, right?

No, kas would use acusative - ko tu klausies ? Uz ko tu skaties ?, and it mostly means only what, who is translated as kurš

Paldies Sol Invictus!

So "Whom are you looking at?" and "Whom are you listening to?" would be translated as:

"Uz kursh tu skaties?" and "Kursh tu klausies?" :?:

Uz kuru tu skaties ? and Kurā tu klausies ? , kurš is nominative

Paldies Sol Invictus!

I understand that uz in this case is always followed by accusative. Thus: uz ko and uz kuru.

But how come for klausiities you use accusative (ko) on one side and locative (kuraa) on the other side?

I'm not sure what exactly you mean, uz isn't always followed by accusative, it is followed by accusative if it is direction related

Well, probably, because as you said kas dosen't have locative

Paldies!

I was pondering a bit about the difference between kas and kursh again today. :)

Another related question:

Wikipedia saka:
The interrogative/relative pronoun kas "who, what" has the same declension as tas, but it has only singular forms (and no locative form, with the adverb kur "where" used instead). The same applies to forms derived from kas: nekas "nothing", kaut kas "something", etc.

Vai noziimee ka ir arii feminine forms of "kas", tik "kaa", "kaas", "kai", etc?

No, they mean masculine singular (though I have used such forms jokingly)
