It should be هذا hadhaa (or هذه hadhihi, depending on the gender of the thing referred to), though the 'dh' is realized as [z] in many colloquial dialects.

It's spelled رام الله and it's a city in Palestine.

First: I thought that is similar to הזה /hazé/ as in hebrew and i dont know exactly the sound of "dh".
Second: that was only because i dont want to write the ligature for god in arabic...
Third: If you want to me to be politicaly correct, i mean that's a city in Eretz Israel.

1. I'll clarify it for you then: the sound of "dh" is [ð] in IPA. It's the same sound as "th" in the English "this" (or "d" in the Spanish "ayuda"... in the Castilian Spanish pronunciation anyway) Hope that helps! :)

2. So, if I understood correctly, you didn't want to write out the entire world "الله" (by excluding the alef). Am I right? Well, whatever your reasons are for doing that, I'm afraid that this (the way eskandar spelled it, i.e. رام الله) is the standard way Ramallah is spelled in Arabic.

3. It's really not about political correctness (or rather, it didn't seem to me that eskandar's intention was to be politically correct). Ramallah lies in what is often called the Palestinian territories, simple as that. Now, you could also go the UN-way and call the area "Occupied Palestinian Territories," but that might upset some people. :P So, if you want to be really "politically correct," you could call them "disputed territories." But saying that it's a city in Eretz Yisra'el... I can assure you that not everyone would agree with that statement--especially not the Palestinians! :P

Yes it is. In fact, even one of their offices in Palestine is called "Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs occupied Palestinian territory", who also often abbreviate the Palestinian territories as "oPt" (occupied Palestinian territories).

*sigh* I realized (a little too late, unfortunately) that you're the kind of person who's not worth arguing with.

(And, kamanek... that's the last thing I'll say about this issue in this thread. Let's get back on topic, shall we? For the sake of the others, at least. If you absolutely have to continue arguing with me, do it somewhere else. As for me, I'm done, and I'm not interested in arguing with you anymore neither here nor in private)

Moderator note: kamanek, this is not a thread for promoting Zionism, racism, or other political agendas. It's a thread for a language game. I corrected your statement about Ramallah's location not to provoke a political discussion, but because it is factually wrong. Ramallah is located in land recognized by Israel as under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority, land referred to by the United Nations as the Occupied Palestinian Territories, etc. No country on earth--not even Israel itself--claims that Ramallah is part of Israel. Further posts (by anyone) on that issue in this thread will be locked; if you want to start a discussion about it, go to the Politics forum (which I don't even look at anymore).

That being said, I'll take Anima Benedicta's suggestion and get back on topic.

If you let me add a correction: it's "occupied Palestinian territories". The first adjective and the noun are treated as common nouns, capitalizing the three would suggest the expression is a proper noun/name......
