يعني also means 'means'
it's derived from the root عنى which means 'to mean'.
you can use it to say something like "I meant to do that" or "what does it mean".
you can also say "لا يعنيك" which means "it doesn't concern you."

I thought it's like "darling" or something, people call others so, too.. :?

maybe you got it confused with "يا عيني" which literally means my eye, but can be used to mean darling. Other usages for يا عيني could be "wow/look at that/my oh my" and can be used in a normal manner or sarcastically.
