I've really been listening a lot to صباح, a Lebanese singer. My favorite song so far: يا حبيبي يا هياتي.

Bah, I'm finally used to Arabic script.

I love this song بسك تجي حرتنا by يارا. It has a pretty nice beat to it. Makes it great for a little dancing.

Yup, it's khaliji...unless it's Iraqi. Sometimes foreigners speaking Iraqi sound khaliji :-D

Thanks for sharing Mona Amarsha songs Meera ji!

The first is in the Egyptian dialect.
The second is in the Iraqi dialect.
The third is in the Moroccan dialect (or potentially Algerian/Tunisian, but I think Moroccan).

Mona is really really popular in the Gulf!

There's something really unique about her - as a Moroccan, she sings in the Gulf accent (Khaliji) perfectly. It's close to native level.
HOWEVER, when she sings Moroccan songs, she sounds like a Khaliji girl trying to sing Moroccan! It really doesn't sound like a true Moroccan dialect - mostly because me and my friends can actually understand it :rotfl: I have no idea why this happens, but it just does :? Moroccan artists also often modify their native dialect or "water it down" to make it understandable for others.

Here is another really famous Moroccan singer singing Moroccan songs. Moroccan rocks! :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DUgnZPag04
(This one is actually pretty understandable)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPy9N_Gyhro
(Kind of understandable too)

And this is the most famous singer in the Middle East of Moroccan descent, whom you probably know. This is her first Moroccan song in forever

Nawal alZoghbe released this Iraqi song last year. It's a nice song, but...no offense at all to her, but she still sounds really Lebanese :-p

For anyone interested in the Algerian dialect, there are lots of old songs (and newer) by Cheb Khaled and others. Just beware, if you speak a dialect from the Middle East or Egypt, Algerian is very very difficult to understand (like Moroccan). But it's beautiful too :-)

Like Moroccan, Algerian music (and their dialect) has tons of French words and phrases - making it even harder to understand for foreigners, but also more cool and diverse. They have their own style of music called "rai" which is really awesome.

This is a really nice Algerian song from last year (I think)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKGW9V1WSl8

This is an Algerian "rai" song, with French parts, by the famous Lebanese singer Pascale Mashaalani. After reading the comments on youtube, I see that a lot of people claim she is singing Moroccan and not Algerian...even though she claims it's Algerian. Awkward :-p I don't know these dialects well enough to say. She sounds Lebanese still but full credit for her trying to sing in a really difficult dialect that not many others try to do.

As for Khaliji, for the past few years all the other singers have been making Khaliji songs so there is tons and tons and tons. Several Lebanese singers have made fully Khaliji albums, including Myriam Fares, Yara and Diana Haddad. They sound pretty authentic. All three have tons of Khaliji songs but I'm choosing some more recent ones. You can often tell Khaliji and Iraqi songs by using lots of "ch" instead of "k", ق as "g" and the Standard Arabic pronunciation of ض ظ ذ ث and heavy ع. In the spoken Gulf dialects you hear lots of ق pronounced as both English "g" AND "dj", ك as "ch", and ج as "y". It's not always used in songs but it's there sometimes.

Myriam Fares
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hKkRoUoIjQ

Yara especially sounds really Khaliji
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUKyTOh96DU

Diana Haddad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H33njM807X0

Keep in mind that Khaliji is lots of different dialects and not just one general one. I can't really tell them apart except sometimes Bahraini and even less Saudi and Emirati.

This is Bahraini (I think. I hope I'm right lol)
