Thank you!

It is not the Arabic word for life but rather one of several (eg. حیاة ).
Please correct my mistakes in any language.

رَدِيئاً, as it seems (I found an expression in the dictionary with بريئًا)

Hey everyone! I know this question has been asked before. But before I start my classes my teacher emailed and said to make sure I get a dictionary. Is this oxford one any good? I'm trying to go small because I will have to carry it around all day :P

It looks like a good dictionary to me, but I don't actually have a copy.

I know that many consider the best Arabic - English dictionary to be The Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic by Hans Wehr. I don't know how portable it is though.

Is this sentence correct?

أَلْكَلْبُ ٱلْمَرِيضُ عَطْشَانَةٌ

(The kasrah under the raa is not clearly visible in the sentence above, but it is there!)

Thanks in advance!

Since الکلب is masculine it should be الکلب المریض عطشان .

I had to use كلبة, not كلب! I want to translate the following sentence: "The sick dog (female) is thirsty". So, my sentence should be this: أَلْكَلْبَةٌ ٱلْمَرِيضُ عَطْشَانَةٌ. I think it is correct now!

Don't forget that all the adjectives should agree with the noun, not just the last one. (Just like Italian!) Therefore, if it's feminine, it should be الکلبة المریضة عطشانة .

And curiously enough, just like in Italian (or Russian) the feminine ending is "a" (if you ignore the prescriptivist rule of pronouncing the "ta marbuta" ending as "atu" or "atun" in a non-stop position).

Yesterday I wanted to edit my last post and write المریضة instead of ٱلْمَرِيضُ, but you preceded me. Anyway, thank you!

Is there someone who pronounce the ta marbuta actually as "atu", "atun", "ata", "atan", etc..?? I've read the everyone says just "a".

If you are required to speak Standard Arabic on a professional level (like in news programs) you have to pronounce all the endings. And they are pronounced in Quran too.
