The first correction deals with the fact a noun needs an article :) , and talking about articles, remember names of people generally are preceded by an article too :!: For the feminine you have "la" and "na" (the former being much more usual nowadays in Catalonia), and for masculine names, "el" and "en" - being both used in daily speech :)

It's not a real grammatical mistake, but I guess it might be useful from now on to know we only can use "estimar" about people, so it's not quite exactly like the English "to love". :) To say we like something a lot, we may use constructions such as this one:
- M'agrada molt la platja
- M'agraden molt els ocells

BTW I don't remember having seen the word for sandwich posted here, but yeah, it's an English loandword :P

celebrian23 wrote:Exercise 9

Picture 3: Els ocells estimen el cel.

Picture 4: El bebè (or "nadó") mira.

Picture 5: Ells [s]son[/s] mengen.

Picture 6: can't see it

Picture 7: El cavall juga al joc.

Picture 8: can't see

Picture 9: La noia troba la terra.

Picture 10: Ells estimen els aliments (or "el menjar")

I couldn't see some of the images either... I guess the links are dead.

We use "el menjar" (as a noun) much more often than "els aliments". :)

As you can see, I corrected a minor mistake in picture 7, but I think it's about something that hasn't still been mentioned!

The verb jugar is always followed by the preposition "a" :)
And remember "a" has different forms:
a + el = al a + la = a la
a + els = als a + les = a les
It only changes in the masculine forms, but I thought it would be good pointing it out :)

I'm always excited to see people interested in Catalan, since foreigners who are eager to learn it seem to be almost a rarity here :)

I'm sorry about the big delay, I have been busy busy :? BTW thanks for posting the links, it proved very useful to know where were the exercises ;)

EXERCISE 20
celebrian23 wrote:Cada dia he fumat.

Cada dia should go always with the present, thus "cada dia fumo". Which is not my case btw :P
celebrian23 wrote:Sempre vaig anar al cinema.

This sentence would be correct if you wrote it like this: "sempre vaig al cinema". In this case I would have chosen ahir.

Avui no he dormit a casa.
celebrian23 wrote:Ahir vaig [s]a[/s] dormir.

 Vaig a is "I'm going to", "vaig" would be the past form. Catalan is tricky in this sense ;)
I would have chosen the following time expressions for this one: avui, mai, sovint, sempre, cada dia, ara, a vegades.

celebrian23 wrote:Mai t'enyoro molt.

Correct, but do you say that to your bf?

Hola a tothom!

on Monday I will fly to the States. There I will meet two colleagues of mine, one from Valencia, one from Barcelona. I would like to tell them the following in Catalan (I sort of promised I would have studied a bit of Catalan, but I'm too far behind....):

"I will be here for a couple of months to serve as operation manager of the XXX detector and to work on data quality. I wish I were able to say this (and even more) in Catalan, but I'm still very bad, and I could only learn these few words by heart!"

As you see, it's something neither serious, nor urgent. I don't want to waste your time, so don't mind if you will have no chance to answer :P

Moltes gràcies!

I can't sleep and I want to watch tv.
No puc dormir i vull mirar el televisió.

I've got little hair and I can't go to the hairdresser.
Tinc poc pèl i no puc anar al barber.

Yesterday I couldn't sleep.
Ahir no puc dormir.

Exercise 33:

Judy pot aprovar els seus exams, però no és intel·ligent bastante i no pot. El seu germà és ric i té una biblioteca. També és molt intel·ligent i pot ajudar la seva germana. Però no vol ajudar la seva germana. No estan contents i no estan pacients. Quan vol ajudar algú i pot ajudar algú, canta molts cancons. Ha cantat bastante avui.

Estaré ací per un parell de mesos com a director del detector de XXX i per a treballar en (la) qualitat de (les) dades. M'agradaria poder dir açò (i més) en Català, però encara sóc molt roín, i només m'he pogut aprendre estes poques paraules de memòria!

This is in valencian version :P You can change ací for aquí and roín for dolent and u'll have the oriental version. :P

Thank you very much! And sorry for the intrusion: I hope I will come back soon to seriously attempt to learn Catalan :)

How do you say this in Catalan?

Hej ...! I hope you're doing fine down there in Spain.

I don't really like such mails, either, but thanks nonetheless for sharing!!

God bless,

Gràcies!

God bless = Que Déu et beneeixi :)

I'd say "aquests" instead of "eixos" because it's the form used in my dialect, but either way is perfectly correct.

Moltes Gràcies, guys!!

I read aloud the whole second chapter of the book of Romans, and am getting more and more used to it. ;-)

My knowledge would probably stay be a passive one, until I visit somewhere in Països Catalans.

Another question is, do you pronounce the R in the word per? How about per a? Do you pronounce the R there?
