Speakers in DC?

Postby awesomestacy » 2012-09-10, 23:24

Hi,
I'm looking for a native Faroese speaker in the Washington, DC area to do some recordings for my linguistics research. Only about 1 hour needed! I'm willing to trade an English lesson, or buy you a coffee, or be friends!
Thank you so much!
-Stacy

Hi, Stacy. I hope you found someone.

In any case, I'm interested in what kind of research you're doing. :)

I've only found someone in Pittsburg, but I'm still looking for someone closer to DC!
I'm going research on speech sounds, especially vowel, which are plentiful in Faroese. Plus it's too beautiful to resist working with.

Sweet. I'm currently studying Faroese at the University of the Faroe Islands, so if you need any other information, feel free to ask.

And yes, there are a lot of vowels, but as you may have noticed, Faroese has a sh*tload of diphthongs. Or well, there's even a theory going on, that all the long monophthongs [can] have secondary diphthongisation, while the long diphthongs [can] have secondary triphthongsation. :)

I wish you luck on your continued search and on your research. :)

This is really interesting about the di(tri)phthongs...is there a paper on it that I can read?
