Keramus' questions

Postby keramus » 2015-10-23, 8:07

Dear members

As you see in the picture, the blonde woman is kicking another woman in the stomach.
combat.jpg

Can the blonde woman say:
Take my kick.
(I mean that she wants to give her kick to another woman and she humorously offers the other woman to receive her kick)

And what is your opinion about this picture?
Can the African woman say:
Take my punch.

If these sentences are not correct, what would a native speaker suggest?
Thank you.

Dear members

Would you mind answering this question, please?
This picture belongs to the movie Zodiac.

My question is this :
Can I use done instead of finished?
You're not done?
-No, I'm done, Carol. I'm done.
Thank you.

Sorry, keramus. I really thought someone else would jump in and answer these questions. But since it's been a full and no one has, I'm back on the job.

You can.

[My father was taught that done was incorrect in this context, but after years of looking for support for this stand in various grammars and usage guides and finding nothing, he admitted that the rule he was taught was nonsense.]

Those sentences are grammatically correct. Awkward, but correct. I can't really suggest alternatives, however.

Well, of course, you could always say "take that!" while hitting someone else (regardless of whether you're punching or kicking them), but it wouldn't necessarily be humorous.
