Oops, I forgot that I have one more song in a variety of Arpitan. :P I'm not sure whether it's particularly different from the Valaisan variety the last song I posted here was in. It's in one of the Vaudois varieties spoken in Switzerland, but those include Valaisan and Gruyèrienne:

It's way too warm here now for me to be posting songs from Switzerland now, so I'm moving back down to the Sahara! :P

This is a song from Niger in one of the Tuareg languages. I think it might specifically be in Air Tamajeq a.k.a. Tayiṛt although I'm not sure. It's a song recording from 1990 called "Tassikissikit," and I first heard part of it (I can't tell which part) on Encarta (1996 I think). It's much more typical of African music than the other Berber songs I've posted here:

Very weird genre, but I like it. Kind of a guilty pleasure.

Hausa is (for anyone who didn't know) the largest language in the Chadic family (which forms part of Afroasiatic) spoken in various countries in West Africa, particularly in (southern) Niger and in northern Nigeria and by Muslims. According to the video description, this is a song from the 70s in Hausa by Nigerien singer Mahamadou Gawo Filinge about the similarities between Niger and Nigeria, comparing them to e.g. twins and co-spouses. It's called "Najeriya da Nijar" (Nigeria and Niger). Sorry for the poor recording quality:

The Bantu languages are classified as Niger-Congo languages and more specifically Benue-Congo languages in the Atlantic-Congo branch of the family. Another group of languages within Benue-Congo is the Kainji languages in northwestern Nigeria, named after the lake they surround. Lela a.k.a. C'lela, Chilela, or (in Hausa) Dakarkari is a Kainji language and more specifically a Northwest Kainji language. It's spoken in Kebbi State and Niger State, where Hausa appears to be the majority language. This is a traditional song, presumably in Lela:

Tolai is the most populous Oceanic language that isn't a Polynesian language. It's spoken by approximately 61 000 people in the Gazelle Peninsula in New Britain Island, PNG.

There are many varieties of Hausa, although the ones spoken in Nigeria are mutually intelligible for the most part IIUC. One variety is called Arewanci and spoken in northwestern Nigeria. This is a Hausa song from the state of Zamfara in northwestern Nigeria, where they also speak Arewanci, so I'm hoping this song is in that variety of Hausa (and not the standard Dauranci or Kananci):

Yeah the audio quality on that other one is bad, but at least it's more or less the natural voice (apart from the recording quality). I hate songs that rely too much on Auto-Tune since to me it's very unnatural and takes away from the voice quality/beauty itself.

Ah, OK. :)

In addition to Benue-Congo, another group of languages found within the Atlantic-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo family is called Volta-Niger, West Benue-Congo, or East Kwa. The most widely spoken language in this group is Yoruba. Another (much less widely-spoken) language within the Volta-Niger group is Nupe, spoken in west-central Nigeria. This is a song in Nupe from 2015 with English subtitles called "Mamazu":

Yoruba, as previously mentioned, is a Volta-Niger language. It's mainly spoken in southwestern Nigeria and Benin though it's also spoken elsewhere in Africa, Europe, and the Americas. There are many dialects of Yoruba spoken in Nigeria. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this song clip may be at least partly in a variety of Yoruba called Oworo (or, in Yoruba, Ọwọrọ [ɔwɔrɔ]), spoken along the Niger River (I think in Kogi State). Oworo is apparently part of the Northeast Yoruba group of dialects:

For some reason Oworo reminds me of Twi. Listening to that reminded me of one of my roommates who speaks Twi regularly on the phone when he's home. But I have no idea if they are related languages in the least, or if my ears just aren't accustomed to hearing differences between different African languages.

Well, they're definitely related! (Or at least they're both classified as Atlantic-Congo). Just not particularly closely related. :)

This is another song in a variety of Yoruba spoken in Kogi State in Nigeria. It's called "Aulele" and is about the way the Okun people celebrate weddings. The Okun people are basically Yoruba people who live in Kogi State, but I don't know whether there are Yoruba people there who are not Okun because apparently, the Okun speak various (mostly mutually intelligible and mainly Northeastern) varieties of Yoruba, including both Oworo and Yagba, and Standard Yoruba. So all I can say is that this song is in some variety of Yoruba they speak, that it has some English words in it as well, that it has English subtitles, and that it's apparently from Kogi State!
