"Corny" is a bit dated. Nowadays we'd more likely say "cheesy".

You can say "syrupy" in English, too: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/syrupy. If you want a higher-register word, then "cloying".

But nothing compares to trying to translate "recalque", I don't know the meaning even in Portuguese.

But the way the word it's used on social media is not exchangeable with "repression", it's more akin to "envy". I think. I didn't understand it fully.
