It must be what Brazilian Portuguese calls "brega" or "cafona" but I don't know the English equivalents either. Maybe "corny". Actually "brega" or "cafona" don't have the "sugary" part, just bad taste and exaggeration.

"Corny" is a bit dated. Nowadays we'd more likely say "cheesy".
