Country Names in your conlang / E pašaovaq si e livutšav tei si hă ţă

United States of America

I Sonfeš si Ilesccisi e Ameriqă hă

Literal Translation: States they(nonhuman) are united of America

Nosore has no adjectives so I'm having a little trouble describing names like this. If you guys have any tips on languages that don't use adjectives please don't hesitate to tell me! In the meantime, I'd like to see how your conlangs translate these.

Countries around the Baltic area, like Kieswaya'a, Germany, or Miya'a, Poland have names, but places like Niihoo, Japan are just transliterations from their native language. There are a handful of exceptions, like Skoolan, Scotland from English, not Gaelic, or Indoonija Indonesia which came from English media.

America: Ameewika [amɛːwɪkə]
France: Rhaas [r̥æːs]
Ireland: Airala [airələ]
Italy: Itaalya [ɪtæljə]
Lithuania: Jeerhaalua'a [ʒɛr̥æːlʊaːʔaː]
Sweden: Rangakaak [rəŋəkæːk]
Finland: Soom [so:m] / Delja'alk [delʒaːʔaːlk]
Rusia: Ruusia [ruːsjə] / Pa'asw [paːʔaːʃ]

That is not a literal translation, because I can clearly see that the word "America" doesn't come in the same order in each sentence. Many people seem to have forgotten what the word "literal" means.

They could be particles. Usually when you do something "literal" it's a bridge between glossing and a full translation.

So? Even if they are particles, you can still translate them, by saying what their function is.

I've never necro-posted before, but it is cool seeing others' ideas for country names, and it didn't make sense to start a new thread...

Anywho, I borrowed loqu's list (I'll return it someday, promise) and filled in the countries. I also added in some tiers for certain countries if I had regional names.

To form a demonym, it is typical to remove the final -a, , or -ià and replace it with -imu for a man or -ima for a woman. However, countries with names ending in -tta behave differently. The -tta is removed to form the male demonym, and the -u is changed to -a for the female demonym. Therefore, Spanià "Spain" > Spanimu/a "Spaniard", while Fenutta "Finland" > Fenu/a "Finn".

Germany - Düzyutta [ðyʒut̪θa]
France - Frâkià [fɾɑ̃kjɐ]

Switzerland - Syüzutta [ʃydzuθa]
Austria - Ustutta [ustuθa]
Greece - Gregià [ʝɾɛʝjɐ]
Netherlands - Râpar Ttôkü [ɾɑ̃paɾ θɔ̃ky]
Finland - Fenutta [fɛnuθa]
Russia - Rösià [ɾœsjɐ]
Sweden - Suegià [swɛʝjɐ]
Norway - Nöruehià [nœːwɛʔjɐ]
Iceland - Islâdà [islɑ̃ðɐ]
Malta - Melidà [mɛliðɐ]

Decided to go ahead and do this. Evelēranēl - Genljøŋ - ??? (demonym) (still haven't named this thing yet - tentatively c Lègælıefra, long form c cǒǔ ægȷælıeframæ lèholo... bit of a mouthful).
Evelēranēl tends to just use the countries' own names for themselves, with the -kēn, '-land', ending. Genljøŋ does something similar. ???, like always, follows its own rules. Plus, ???’s demonyms are placed after the country’s name, since they’re formed in a rather strange way and I'll probably use this list as a reference later. Evelēranēl’s and Genljøŋ’s demonyms are much simpler (the suffix –wen and a quick vowel shift + (n)ge, respectively).

Hahaha, you're great. :)
Haha, thanks. I thought it was only fitting.

In the meantime, I've come up with continent names:

Africa - Africa [afɾika]
Antarctica - Âtarctica [ɑ̃taɾktika]
Asia - Azia [azja]
Europe - Iöröpa [jœɾœpa]
North America - Oregamerica [ɔɾɛjamɛɾika]
South America - Ettilamerica [ɛθilamɛɾika]

And I remembered a few country names I didn't include on my first list (especially Hungary, I love how it sounds in Mironese :P )

Czech Republic - Syexutta [ʃɛhuθa] / Syexuttim Republicà [ʃɛhuθim ɾɛpuvlikɐ]
Denmark - Denutta [ðɛnuθa]
Hungary - Ôkarià [ɔ̃kaːjɐ]
Ireland - Irutta [iɾuθa]
Luxembourg - Lizûburga [lizœ̃ʋuɾja]
Poland - Pölunià [pœlunjɐ]
N'hésite pas à corriger mes erreurs.
