Well lets get back to topic, is there anybody who is fluent in Somali that could make some exercises in this thread that you could correct afterwards and also explain the grammar and post words once in a while for the people who want to learn Somali?
I think this would help alot.
Somali is a language that 20 million people speak and there has to be some natives who can help or somebody who has lived in Somalia (before the war) or Djibouti.

You never know they might linger somewhere around here but just havent found this thread because of being busy learning other languages. But all we can do is hope:)

Somali has long vowels aswell like the double oo, aa, ee which makes the word longer.

I can start with a few words:
Ani = Me
Adi = You (s.)
Idinka = You (pl.)
Hooyo = Mother
Aboo = Father
Albaab = Door
Caano = Milk
Walaal = Sister/Brother
Saxib = Friend
Cun = Eat
Cunto = Food
Geel = Camel
Maroodi = Elephant
Mas = Snake
Nin = Man (Ninka = The Man) (Ninkas = That man)
Malai/Kalluun = Fish
Weyn = Big
Jiris = Small
Ilk = Tooth
Magaca = Whats your name
Setahay/Max ficantahay = How are you
Maxaa = What (Maxaa rabta = What do you want)
Fuur = Open
Shid = Close (Sounds like shit almostxd)
Baabuur = Car
Bun = Coffee
Macaan = Sweet/Delicious/Good
Bas = Bus
Tufaax = Apple
Sariir = Bed
Mahadsanid = Thank you
Rali ahow = Sorry
Qaboow = Cold
Kuuleel = Hot
Manta = Today
Shalay = Yesterday
Birri = Tommorow
Moos = Banana
Fiiri = To look
Libaax = Lion
Dhul = Floor
Kur = Up
Hoos = Down/Below

A few sentences:
Ninkas ya wayeey = Who is that man
Hooyodada iso wac = Call your mother
Hooyadiis iso wac = Call his mother
Abaha iso wac = Call your father
Abihiis iso wac = Call his father
Albaabka fuur = Open the door
Maxaa ku uu dhacay = What has happened
Sariirkada ka kac = Get off your bed
Kale! Cunto so cun = Come! Eat food
Cuntodada so cun = Eat your food
Cuntoda max macaantahay = Is the food good/delicious
Caanada qaboow wayee manta = The milk is cold today
Birri mooskas wa ku cunaa = Tommorow I will eat that banana
Shalay kalluun badaney wa cuney = Yesterday I ate alot of fish
Libaaxkas fiiri = Look at that lion

Maybe slightly off-topic, but I found that the smartphone/iPad app "Bible.is" developed by Faith Comes by Hearing offers the New Testament text and audio via the app. Well, some people may be put off that it has Christian contents, but hearing continuous passages while simultaneously reading the text was... a pretty nice feature. Unless you're offended by the idea, it might be worth checking out if you have the means. The audio can be heard from their website, but the website doesn't give the text to read along, as far as I know.

Reminds me of the site I was just on yesterday for Taiwanese (through Maryknoll). Sounds interesting.
Thanks Karavinka!

After a conversation with Formiko, my interest in Somali resurfaced. Not that I'm planning on learning it anytime soon. But I looked around from some stuff online and found a textbook and some readers, enjoy!

Don't know the quality, as I haven't downloaded them yet. But hopefully they're good!

I've developed an interest in learning Somali, so would like to know, from anyone who's downloaded these files (which aren't currently available), what exactly they contain and how useful they've been.
