Overview of Turkic grammatical and syntactical features

Postby TheStrayCat » 2015-06-23, 11:05

Hello!

I'm preparing a lecture about main peculiarities and features of Turkic languages. The target audience is a team for the International Linguistics Olympiad consisting of high school students, so, teaching them some comparative linguistics might be useful.

Typical linguistics problems don't require any knowledge of the language(s), but do require logical thinking and the ability to analyze unfamiliar grammatical structures. My goal is to prepare an overview of Turkic languages which would familiarize the students with things like vowel harmony, agglutination, SOV syntax and so on.

Any material which you consider useful would be good for me. Curious "Did you know..." facts would be excellent! I have a basic knowledge of Turkish and can give answers to a lot of theoretical questions about it, but my knowledge of other Turkic languages is close to non-existent.

Thanks a lot! :)

I think this book would be very helpful.

Thank you. The book is probably good, but for my situation it's not really worth spending 70 bucks, moreover, I cannot order it to my home country. There must be a lot of short comparative and descriptive papers available online, and they're more like what I need.
