Dozens of ebooks in Azerbayjani can be downloaded freely from the website of Şərq-Qərb, an editor based in Baku. There're a lot of folktales, selections from classic and contemporary Azerbayjani poetry as well as a few translated foreign works (from French, English, Russian and Persian mainly). Theater is also represented, which is great.

Most of the texts in the collections of tales are written in a quite simple language and will prove very useful for learners past an intermediate level. Personally I'm currently reading through Asiya xalqlarının nağıl və əfsanələri

I think I have not shared this link before: [Aaron in Azerbaijan] http://aaronmckean.wordpress.com/

It is a blog written by a Peace-Corps volunteer during his stay in Baku, he has posted many Azerbaijani poems along with their translations into English. Through his blog we can also learn more about his daily life in Baku, and his views on current events.

Aw!

It's not the end of the world though. I know of other sites where books in Azerbaijani can be downloaded. Normally most of the e-books that were made available by Şərq-Qərb are accessible there too:

Vikimənbə should also be mentioned in this thread:

And finally, the Milli Kitabxana's web page is also a goldmine:

Has anyone found Teach Yourself Azeri anywhere? Everywhere I check it is around $100, which is a bit outrageous for a book like this! Or maybe someone has it on their computer, if you know what I mean? ;)

It's not what you think

Teach Yourself Azeri is a language course printed in Baku in the early 2000's which is now terribly hard to find in Europe/North America. It has nothing to do with the British publisher.

I'm not sure how helpful it will be to people who don't know Russian, but a PDF of the original Russian version of "Teach Yourself Azeri" can be downloaded here:

I don't really know personnally. Daristani has posted a link to the original Russian version here, and as far as I can tell from the dialogues and texts written in Azerbaijani, it seems to be good and thorough.

Facebook: آموزش زبان ترکی آذربایجانی
A Facebook page in Persian, for learning Azeri. It often gives examples written in Persian script, Latin script, or sometimes both.

Great link, thanks a lot!

This book actually seems to be much better laid out than Kurtulus Oztopcu's manual.

I think I'm going to go through it. It'll be a good and much needed revision of the basics of the language

Hello Limagne, You're welcome!

Since the book is a bit old ('98) You maybe will have to order it from the publishing house directly (If it's not on amazon):

http://www.harrassowitz-verlag.de/title ... 8748154916

I'm currently working through the Tatar manual by the same publisher (although a different author) and so far I really like it. :D

Thanks a lot for the link! I will try to get my hands on a copy of the book asap.

And good luck with your Tatar studies

If you're interested, don't hesitate to open a thread devoted to Tatar in the Other languages section of the forum. We have a lot of people interested in Turkic languages here, and I for sure would love to hear more about your impressions of the language :D The Kypchak family seems to be rather neglected, which is unfair considering its apparent diversity and its geographcial spread.
