Postby Meera » 2011-07-23, 4:32

So I thought this would be a good idea for a thread. Just post what your learned in Tamil today! I'm gonna try to post once a day and see how far I get. So if you are actively learning Tamil just post what you learned today!

Moon can be said:

1 நிலா, Nilā (in fact, this means: Moonshine)
2 நிலவு Nilavu

important difference between Srilankan and Indian tamil is that in srilankan tamil the terms “uvan”" uval” and other similar ones are still used

in indian tamil they have only 2 terms, for place-terms
if we take a person as example

“ivan” =the one in front of me
“avan”=the one who is far away

in Srilankan tamil we have

“ivan” =the one who is in front of me இவன்
“avan”= the one who is far away அவன்
“uvan”= the one who is in between. not too far not too close உவன்
