Have you started to study Nepali ? I don't come very often here on Unilang these days but if you any questions/problems regarding Nepali, I can try my best to help. I am currently doing a B.A degree in Nepali language. My Nepali is not that good but I can help with basic grammar probably.

Where are you doing a B.A in Nepali? That's so cool! I don't think any college in the USA offers a course in Nepali.

I am doing it with the National Institute of Asian languages in Paris, but while living and working here in China. I need to go back to France twice a year to attend the exams at the end of each term. It's not really distance study but some kind of arrangement with the professors there, since I had already a rather decent knowledge of the language before starting the programme. I have to write a few academic papers every term about a variety of topics (Geography of the Himalayas, Ethnology of Tibet and Nepal, Linguistics etc.). I only finished the first year for now.

Very few universities offer Nepali as a major : INALCO (Paris), SOAS (London) and I think one or two in the US such as Cornell University.

Yeah to be honest its quite hard to find any colleges that offer any South Asian languages as Majors. And the ones that do are super expensive. :(

This is the only Nepali song I've ever known at all! It's a movie song called "Ke Bhanu Ma Kaso Gari Pare" from Prem Pinda (1995) and sung by Abhijit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqUCI6AU_Xo
Lyrics (in Devanagari script) and alternative video: http://www.npsongs.com/Abhijit/ke-bhanu ... 12864.html

And the only reason why I know of this song is because of this buffalaxed version of that video, where the uploader added fake subtitles to show what they sounded like to them in English!

I'm so glad you liked it. I love how the tune is so...not what you'd expect the subtitles to suggest! :rotfl: This is possibly one of my favorite buffalaxed videos ever, because it's so my kind of song lol.

I think this is my favorite too because a lot of times on the Hindi buffalex videos I don't know why but I can't hear the English words. This one sounded exactly like the English words!

Man now instead of Chinese I want to do Nepali for TAC lol

Yeah, honestly, I think probably most of these videos aren't all that well made, but this one is a classic! I feel it isn't even just the Hindi ones; like just now, I was seeing one with the buffalaxed version of the Tamil version of "Urvashi Urvashi," and sometimes the subtitles really make no sense, especially when they're actually saying an English word pretty clearly lol!

There's also a Malayalam buffalaxed video, but I don't like it as much. It's not the fact that it's in Malayalam that bothers me; it's the fact that it doesn't seem like the person who made that one is a native speaker of English or anything, and it just doesn't have the same "oomph" to it as videos like this one do. Like there's nothing particularly exciting about the buffalaxed lyrics for that one, whereas for this Nepali one, like even in the beginning, it's like "ha ha ha hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm" and then they show this picture of a girl and then suddenly "gay porno" so it makes you go WHAT LOL! So I tried to come up with buffalax-style lyrics for another Malayalam movie song. :P
Man now instead of Chinese I want to do Nepali for TAC lol

Uh-oh  I better find some buffalaxed videos of Chinese songs soon then, but of course I can't post them on this thread! :P I find the Chinese ones kind of annoying, though, because usually, the original song already comes with subtitles in Chinese, so then it's like you're reading one set of subtitles over another lol.

Here's a link to watch the first episode of Singh Durbar, a good TV series in Nepali with English subtitles. There are 14 episodes in total and all of them are available on Youtube. It's mostly about Nepalese politics, slightly satirical at times, and it aims at showing what the ideal Nepalese government should be like.

Thought that might interest some people around here. Enjoy! :)

Wow, thanks for posting this, Jullí! :o This is only the second time I've seen anyone recommend a TV show in a South Asian language before, and the first time, it was in Urdu (with bits of Punjabi since it was a Pakistani show).

You're welcome! I haven't watched all the episodes yet but I'll do it as soon as I've got more time on my hands.
