All the Polynesian language forums seem to have been dead for a couple of years.

Yes, Hawaiian is related to Rapanuian. I can understand some things in Rapanuian but not without difficulty.

I learned a little Hawaiian in school but most of what I learned was through self study. There is a surprising abundance of Hawaiian language materials online nowadays (e.g., dictionaries, grammar books, course books, native literature, audio recordings, short news clips). I'm looking to learn Tongan sometime in the future because of how different it is from Hawaiian. :P

What drew your interest in Rapanuian?

oh cool! Do most schools offer Hawaiian in Hawaii?

my interest in Rapanuian? It began with Tok Pisin, morphed into Norfuk, then Pitkern, and finally the Rapa Nui flag really attracted my eyes' attention, so I've decided to give it a shot, thus entering the Austronesian language family :). I'm playing with Marshallese now and I'll try Tongan, Tahitian, Maori, and most of the other Polynesian languages too. Especially the ones with cool flags

Yay, another austronesian language fan! :) Do you plan to look at the non-polynesian languages as well?
