'Ula [ʔula] means red, I don't know about crimson. Are you going to learn Hawai'ian?! Go Polynesian languages! February is going to be my Polynesian languages month.

He needs to know what Crimson is in Hawaiian since he's learning Hawaiian.

'Ula'ula is blood-red. What exactly is crimson? Hawai'ian might not have a word for it.

Crimson is a deep purplish-red. (from dictionary.com).

I did a search on Hawaiian Dictionarys (http://wehewehe.org). I couldn't anything for crimson then I did a search for red which brought up 'ula.

Looking at the synonyms listed I found weo. Weo was defined as -

weo

1. nvs. Red, redness; to blush. See ex., pano. (PCP weo.)

2. n. Dried banana bark, perhaps so called because of a reddish color.

3. n. A variety of taro. Also mana weo (PCP weo.)

This is probably the word you're looking for.
Linguicide IS genocide. :)

He ingoa ōpaki a Riki; he ingoa ōkawa a Ariki.

Riki is an informal name; Ariki is a formal name.
