Does someone have any text or anything to say about this (these) language(s)? Are they French variants or indipendent tongues?

As far as I know, Assimil has publish a lot of little courses (Créole Martiniquais, Guadeloupéen, Capverdien, Guyanais, Réunionnais, Mauricien, etc.).

Haitian Creole is my native language - they are not French variants - the Creoles are as far from French as French is to Latin. That is to say, French speakers can't readily understand the Creoles.
You might want to visit the Haitian Creole forum. The first post-it on that subforum is about other Creoles...I just started it, so there's not so much to look at yet, but I plan to discuss each of the other "French-based" Creoles. BTW, Cape Verdean Creole is "Portuguese-based", not "French-based".

EDIT: You beat me Amikeco. Thanks for that. :P

Very intersting information! I've become curious to know more about these languages since I had dinner in a Creole restaurant (the food was delicious!).
