Tok Pisin word for 'Translation'

Postby Purple Julie » 2007-04-13, 14:13

Hello, I noticed that someone asked how to say 'translation' in Tok Pisin, and the answer that was given was 'translesen' or something like that.

I don't know a lot of Tok Pisin, and I know people here know more than me, but I have been to PNG twice and in the future I am planning on going there to do translation work. The PNG people told me that you say 'tanim tok' when you want to say 'translate', etc.

Tarnim Tok, also has other meanings such as manipulator of the truth,
This is a bit unusual as I would not normally come across the need to express this phrase

Cenesim tok

Does that help?

I've seen people use the word tantok to express "translation", but senisim tok makes sense too. Something along the lines of man bilong senisim tokples could be used to mean "translator".
The fellow who thinks he knows it all is especially annoying to those of us who do.
