Hey everybody!

Before wednesday, I'm supposed to have translated a fragment of Little Red Riding Hood in Tok Pisin for my English as a world Language class! I'm trying to figure out this language,and i find it quite difficult :wink:
My question is, I am supposed to translate words such as Wolf, Latch, and .. Little red Riding Hood of course ;) and I can't find the right translations for those phrases! If any of you would be so kind to help me out -in time, haha- that would be SO amazing! I would be forever thankful and if anyone ever needs help in dutch translations; I'm here! :D

Thanks very much in advance!
Greetings
Martie from the Netherlands

Toksave is the person to ask about that. If you don't get to him first...

--------

Have you seen the two-way dictionary here?:
http://www.tok-pisin.com/sort-english.php

The dictionary doesn't have those words, so maybe they can be created:

liklik retpela = Little red

"Riding hood" doesn't appear there. There is, though:

tuptup = cover
klos = cloth(es)
siot = shirt

Thank you so much for replying so fast!
Yes, we were given two links, one to that dictionary and one to this one http://www.june29.com/HLP/lang/pidgin.html
However, both sites seem to have the exact same vocabulary :wink:

Thanks for the Little Red Riding-hood translation! I only came up with Liklik Ret, hehe..
If i do not find the correct translation in time, she will become Liklik retpela *something* klos :lol:

Again, thanks a million, it means a lot!

Apparently they haven't changed that assignment at all in four years. :lol:

I'm having lots of fun, Tok Pisin is an awesome language. I came up with 'liklik retpela hat' all by myself :mrgreen:

This is crazy. I am also in the English as a World Language class and I am also having trouble with the translation of Little Red Riding Hood in Tok pisin. If mymasalai is still on the board, could you send me that translation of it as well? I also came up with liklik retpela het, but like the first poster said there are just not many good dictionaries to be found online. Could you please send it to: jeroen_vanderlee@hotmail.com I will add the pages to translate from the assignment.
Eternal gratefulness in advance,
Jeroen

Dog is dog in Tokpisin, so I'll assume wolf is wolf since Tokpisin borrows from both English and German. Since it also borrows from Malay, wolf could be serigala, but for an animal that isn't even native to New Guinea, I'd say wolf is a safe bet.

According to my 400 page Tok Pisin dictionary with an abundance of example phrases and sentences, "wolf" is "weldok"

There's a reason it mentions 'imagination' and 'creativity' :wink: It doesn't have to be perfect, the point is to kind of play with a Pidgin English language. I think.

I guessed 'wuf' for 'wolf' but I like 'weldok' :)

Well.. the class is called 'English as a World Language', it's basically about the influence of English all over the world. And last week's lecture was about Tok Pisin as an example of an English-based creole. It's not like we're actually learning it or anything, just kind of get a feel for it, see how creoles work or something. The teacher is not a Tok Pisin specialist or anything, in the example translation she put up she translated 'wolf' with 'bikpela dok'. This week we discussed Jamaican Creole. :)
