Hmm...Let me brainstorm a few topics...I had mentioned the cuisine. I could also teach you a little about voodoo (as long as none of the lwe come into my house  ). I could tell you about the position of French in Haïtian communities, about dialects of Créole, about the Haïtian Diaspora, about the HORRIBLE politics in the country...hmm, thats all that I can think of. Oh yes! and the music - like zouk (zouk is actually from Martinique, but it's popular in Haïti)

Since I mentioned food, I want to tell all of you about my favourite food - lambi (conque in French). The lambi or conque is a mollusk - for someone who has never eaten it, I would describe it as tasting like mussels - very fishy. I do not get to eat it much where I live now, but my older relatives that still have garded their ways of cooking usually put it in salad. They usually cook it in a garlic/vinegar sauce to add flavour. This maye be a bizarre sounding thing to you, but it is even eaten as a dessert!
Let me know what else you want to know.

Before I tell you about voodoo, I would like you to tell me what your perceptions of voodoo are so we can make sure that there are no misunderstandings - it is pretty easy to have misunderstandings about this religion.

The fundamental belief of voodoo is that there is one God who exists. We call Him 'Bondyè' (Bon Dieu in French). 'Bondyè' is a God who has grown distant from his creation - for unexplained reasons. Therefore, the way that we recieve the blessings of Bondyè is to communicate with the lwe - but the good ones. The hougan - witch doctor - communicates with the good lwe to provide us with safety and other blessings. Some hougan do not communicate with good lwe- they communicate with bad lwe that cause suffering. They terrorize the people who the zombi turn them against; crops are destroyed, people fall ill with mysterious illnesses and some even have their bodies taken over and controlled by a lwe. Definetely not a game! Anyway, tell me if you have any questions about this or if you want another matter discussed.

P.s. Voodoo is just as large a religion as Christianity or Islam - therefore there are many variations. Keep that in mind.

I am a Santeria believer, so Voodoo is very familiar to me. I've seen a lot of similarities and differences between these two religions. Voodoo really interests me...
oh, and Marcus, are you a voodoo believer yourself?

Thanks Alcadras. :) Axiom, if you would like to learn more about other popular types of Haïtian music other than rap and R&B, feel free to let me know; I will expand the thread that Alcadras showed you, if you like. :)

Yes, I've seen that thread before, but it would be interesting to know about styles other than rap and R&B, so I'll be glad if you can expand the thread:) I'm trying to look for Haïtian music on youtube now, but there is mostly rap.
