Is ar éigean go rabhas ar bhainiseacha agus ní Caitliceach iad.

Níl lá eagla ar an nduine i'm dhiaidh roimh a bheith leis féin.

Níl, mar nach snámhaim go minic.

Is maith leis an duine i mo dhiaidh cuidiú a thabhairt do na seandaoine agus éisteacht lena scéalta.

Uaireanta. Is uaireanta nach bhfuil foighne faoina choinne agam.

Beidh an duine i mo dhiaidh ina ghearradh brád nuair a bheidh sé seanórtha.

Tá sé te faoi láthair san áit a bhfuil an duine i mo dhiaidh.

Arbh fhéidir linn athbhrí a chur sa tsnáithe seo?

Tá an duine im' dhiaidh ag foghlaim teanga Cheilteach den chéad uair.

Bhí an duine im' dhiaidh in uathadh agus ina aonar ar an meán oíche um oíche chinn bliana.

Níl mé cinnte an "cheannaigh" nó "ceannóidh" atá i gceist agat, ach níl teilifís agam féin ar aon nós agus níl teilifís sa teach briste.

Is maith leis an duine i mo dhiaidh an geimhreadh.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how to say "because" in this case.
ag briste.

I like sticking the ag in there with verbal nouns, don't I? :P

'Sea.

Fanann le an duine im' dhiaidh an tearrach.

(Is that where le goes for the meaning "wait for?" And should that be le or leis/léi(thi)?)

"ceannóidh" then.

ag briste.

"briste" isn't even one, it's a verbal adjective.

Fanann leis an duine im' dhiaidh an t-earrach.

(Is that where le goes for the meaning "wait for?" And should that be le or leis/léi(thi)?)

This is the wrong way round ("The spring waits for the person") and the word order looks wrong, too, but I'm correcting it anyway like this because there are two things I want to comment on that go away if I do the full correction: In this case, "leis" isn't "le + é", but before the article, "le" always becomes "leis". And you should use a hyphen if you add a t-prefix to a lower-case word.

And now the real correction, with subject and object swapped, right word order and I think you also want a progressive form:

Tá an duine i mo dhiaidh ag fanacht leis an earrach.

As you can see, there is no t-prefix after the dative article. Though "leis" reappeared, which I thought it wouldn't. ;)

Tá an duine i mo dhiaidh ag fanacht leis an earrach.

Bhuel, ní maith liom an aimsir seo. Ach bheadh sé róluath don earrach. B'fhearr liom fíorgheimhreadh ar feadh tamaill.

Tá rún na hAthbhliana ag an duine i mo dhiaidh.

Yeah, I have no idea, now that I look again at TYI, where the hell I got ceannadh from. :hmm:

Verbal noun, verbal adjective, you know what I mean! :P

Obviously I'm trying to recover (and expand on) my knowledge of Irish syntax.
Thanks for all that.

One question I have in relation to this whole "backwards" thing, what determines that the subject and object are? I'm confused, as they seem to be in the same basic place. the only thing I can think of, which I did ask about, is the placement of le.

Tá an duine i mo dhiaidh ag fanacht leis an earrach.

Now that I see this, it makes much more sense. (Even if I'd follow Liguoboy's lead and say im' instead of i mo. :P )
