I could have sworn I already had a Lakȟota thread here, but it must be meshed all up in the 2011 NAILC Archive. I’m not fishing it out of there. Plus I’d be reviewing a lot of the same for a bit anyway.

I remember the basic word order:
Wíčha kiƞ ptéȟčaka khúwapi.
The men hunt buffalo.
[man the buffalo hunt-they]

At least if I remember correctly.

Thípi kiƞ zí.
The house is yellow.

Here's a dialogue from Beginning Lakhota vol I:

Paul: Háu, Mary, taƞyáƞ yaúƞ he.
Mary: Taƞyáƞ waúƞ kištó. Ma líla olúluta kištó.
Paul: Háƞ, waƞ lé aƞpétu kiƞ líla olúluta. Hé táku luhá he.
Mary: Waskúyeča eyá bluhá. Waƞží ičú we.
Paul: Oháƞ. Líla waštéšte yeló.
Mary: Háƞ, wašté kištó.

Literal translation-
Paul: Greetings, Mary, to_be_fine you-are QUEST.
Mary: to_be_fine I-be ASSERT. Gee very it-to_be_hot ASSERT.
Paul: Yes, a/an today/this_day very it-to_be_hot. that what you-to_have QUEST.
Mary: berries/fruits/candy some I-to_have. HYPO it_to_take_s.t. ASSERT.
Paul: Okay. Very it-to_be_good ASSERT.
Mary: Yes, it-to_be_good ASSERT.

Translation:
Paul: Hello*, Mary, are you well?
Mary: I am well. Gee, it is very hot.
Paul: Yes, today it is very hot. What is that you have?
Mary: I have some candy**. Take one.
Paul: Okay. It’s very good.
Mary: Yes, it’s very good.

Notes:
* Háu - only used by men, and unlike most other Lakhota words that have a glottal between two adjacent vowels, this word has an actual diphthong.
**Waskúyeča - actually means "fruits" or "berries," though in the dialogue it means candy. Nowadays the word for candy is čhaƞmháƞska/čhaƞmskúya/čhaƞháƞpšaša.

It’s a very good dialogue for learning enclitics, such as kištó and yeló. It’s also good for learning male and female forms of speech.

Yup. Figured Lakhota's been good to me, so why not finish what I started.

Don't know how fast I'll go through the textbooks, but I'll be work on it.

Wish I had kept that deck. My Lakota has gotten quite rusty.

Anyway, I'll be using this old thread for my Powwow updates, and to present my original piece(s) of Lakota prose/poetry.

I'll need to review quite a bit, so that's what I'll do until the official start of the Powwow (and perhaps for a little bit after). As there aren't a ton of notes here now, I'll post anything I find fascinating here during, and after the powwow.

I'll be using the textbook series Beginning Lakhota by Rood and Tayler as my main text, and I also have a dictionary (the New Lakota Dictionary) which should prove to be helpful as well.

False alarm. Lakota is waiting while I work on learning Yup'ik for a while. I'll be back to Lakota soon though. And Powwow or not, I'll still work on some composition in Lakota (or any other NAIL I may study).
