De rien ! :)

dEhiN wrote:Edit: I wasn't losing my mind in spelling it "fourty"; that's an older spelling. I don't know if it's British influence through my parents or the way Canadians used to spell it when I was young, but that's the natural spelling of 40 for me.
"Fourty" also just makes more sense; it's one of the regular "-ty" words in speech, but for some reason the root is spelled differently. (seven -> seventy but four -> forty?)

L'arme means "weapon". Just a little different.

I thought the same way too at first. But by the end of the song, I was annoyed by it. :D
Isso porque não teve que escutar o dvd inteiro seguidas vezes por estar cuidado de crianças! :D

I would say "I've ever lived (in)". Something about using the simple past without a preposition afterward sounds off.

To me it's sounds off that a preposition is used only after something.

Yeah the proper term would be postposition when it comes after, except that usually they are prepositions in English. But in the sentence I mentioned, I prefer to put the preposition at the end of the sentence, even though technically that makes it a postposition. I prefer that because I don't believe in the old-school English grammar rules that tried to make English like Latin and said things such as "a preposition can never end a sentence" or "you should never have a split infinitive".

Btw, it should be it (just) sounds off, not *it's...
dEhiN wrote:Yeah the proper term would be postposition when it comes after, except that usually they are prepositions in English.

Not really. Postpositions come after a noun (phrase) that they modify; English doesn't have these AFAIK. I find this usage of prepositions in English more reminiscent of separable prefixes in German (e.g. abhauen 'to clear off' -> Hau ab! 'Clear off!').

Ok, thanks, didn't know that. I knew English doesn't have prepositions. But I thought that if any adposition comes after the word it modifies, it's a postposition. But yeah, I can see how "off" in "clear off!" is different from a postposition in say Korean.

Just pointing out that while neither "in every state (that) I've lived in" and "clear off" involve postpositions, they are two different constructions. The first involves a preposition before an implied noun phrase, one replaced by the relative pronoun "that". The "off" in "clear off", like vijayjohn said, is more like a German separable particle (I'd rather call it a derivational particle or an adverb than an adposition.), and it isn't attached to any noun phrase.

That's true. But what would you call the second "in"? It seems to be a preposition following a verb conjugation.

That's what he was saying: a preposition before an implied noun phrase.
