Interesting parallel to Egypt, where the name of the country also serves as a metonym for the capital city (مصر is often used to refer to Cairo).

hallaq هلّق "now"

Is the [q] actually pronounced as such in any Syrian dialects? I have only ever heard the word as halla2 from Lebanese.
Please correct my mistakes in any language.

No, no, it is not pronounced in Syrian dialects either. The book marks it in the Latin transcription with the crossed q, but in the Arabic script the ق is retained.
Some words become unrecognizable because of this pronunciation, for example بالحقيقة "actually" sounds more like bil7ay'a.

From Pimsleur, I learnt another way of saying this:
"ênta b-êş-şaam min emta" أنت بالشام من أيمتى (literally, "you in Damascus from when?")

I skimmed through the last two chapters 7-8 of Syrian Colloquial and there is no much new information there for me. They mostly teach grammar stuff (conjugations, conditionals) which I already know. Sooo I will make a summary of these 2 chapters but it'll be very short, and then I'll move to some other materials. Oh and it's weird but it seems like they don't teach the way of saying "when" (when she came I was watching TV), or maybe I just missed it.

I think it should be لمّا (so the sentence above is لمّا جت كنت عم بفرّج عالتلفزيون),
or perhaps just و as iodalach explained on the Arabic subforum.

Plan for the next week:
- Chapter 7 of Syrian Colloquial
- Audios 2-5 of Pimsleur Eastern Arabic 2

Aaand I only read Chapters 7-8 of Syrian Colloquial, without writing a summary, and listened to just 1 lesson of Pimsleur. So my plan for this week is:

Plan for week April 3-April 9:
- Chapters 7-8 of Syrian Colloquial (write a summary)
- Audios 3-5 of Pimsleur Eastern Arabic 2

I won't make a summary for Chapter 8. There is quite a lot of new vocabulary in it, so I decided I would return back to it after some time so I can understand and remember all the examples better.

Meanwhile I'm moving ahead with Pimsleur. Plan for this week:
Lessons 10-15 from Pimsleur 2

I'm doing Duolingo German. :P

I'm not planning to do anything else for German, besides maybe songs. Let's see how far it can take me.
UPD: And I'm 23% fluent in German :) This is addictive.

On Duo, I just came across the phrase "Ihm ist nicht gut". Wow I didn't know it could work like this in German. We say it exactly the same way in Russian: Ему (he-DAT) нехорошо (not well).

And "Dir ist kalt" too: Тебе (you-DAT) холодно (cold).

That's pretty much what we do in Malayalam, too.

Does it work like this in all Slavic languages?

In Romanian it is also possible "Nu îi e bine".
I'm thinking whether this is a Balkan Sprachbund thing in Romanian's case.

In German you say "Mir ist kalt" and in Romanian "Mi-e frig". Is it like that in Russian too?

I think yes, although I can only say for sure for the Eastern Slavic and BSC.
Mir ist nicht gut - BSC: Meni nije dobro.

Yes.
Mir ist kalt - Russian: мне холодно (mne holodno), BSC: Meni je hladno.

Polish:
Zimno mi. (Mir ist kalt)
Niedobrze mi. (Mir ist nicht gut)

Also I'm sure you already know this but the neutral order in BCS would be:
Hladno mi je.
Nije mi dobro.

I've done like 70% of the German tree on Duo and got bored, so I'm dropping it. Yeah most likely I'll forget most of what I've learnt, but it was just for fun anyway.

https://lyricstraining.com has some songs in German, maybe I'll do a couple of Rammstein's songs.

Week May 1 - May 7
Pimsleur 26-28

I have a lot of errands to run this week and little time for study.

Saim told me about this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Arabic-Read ... 0071754024

Seems like a really good and fun reader for MSA. Maybe I'm going to try and read it along with my Syrian Arabic studies.
It also has audio recordings freely available online:

And I read 4 chapters of the Easy Arabic Reader. What a nice book! The first part of it tells a story of a young Syrian guy living in California who visits his relatives in Syria and makes a tour in the Middle East. Maybe a bit too easy for my level my I think it's going to be progressively more difficult.

I've finished Pimsleur Eastern Arabic 2!

Going to continue with Pimsleur Easter Arabic 3, and I'm doing recordings from langmedia and DLI too.
