pale makes sense as blasé is likely a common root. But the bl makes me think hard, and the n towards the end.

N is a rather soft sound (so soft it attends to be dropped in dialectal speech), plus it's common to strong past participles, so it doesn't even register to me. Voiced sounds never sound as hard to me as unvoiced, so bl seems pretty innocuous, too.

Blasé is actually related to blasen "blow".

Mini update- have been reading my Intro to Gothic by Benning course, i'm surprised how easy it is to read. Although, i disagree with a few translations (from an ease and understanding). I don't have it in front of me, but one was beguten = ... something like "founded, brought about", but it works equally well as "begot" which i feel is closer, as in, sired or fathered. overall though, very good and interseting as it uses more linguistic shorthand than i've ever seen in a teach yourself or other language course.

Edit- another good example: Twalibwintrus = twelve years, but I can see "Twelve Winters" instead

Yeah but nowadays how many people use "begot" and "winter" in the sense of year?

Small update; Gothic goes well, Greek got sidelined because Gothic is so fun, and I have not moved anywhere with Georgian yet. Current song I am trying to understand is less goth more ... I don't know what the heck it is. Medieval meets techno. Heimataerde 's Die Offenbarung. I'll probably try and translate more of their songs but vocab is short and simple as below. strange I knew most of these words but just seeing them written, I would not have picked them out audio only.

Ich bin Baphomet.
Gott der Templer,
Anwalt der Verdammten
und Führer der Seelen durch die Unterwelt

Höre. Ich bin Baphomet

Denn ich bringe das Licht hervor,
Aber die Finsternis gehört zu meiner Natur

Doch in Wahrheit

Die Finsternis gehört zu meiner Natur

Ich bin Baphomet
