TAC 2014 md0 [Turkish]

Postby md0 » 2014-01-23, 20:23

23 days late (well, 20, I've been studying from 3 days before making this post), but I think I have a goal for 2014:

Learn Basic Turkish [flag=]tr[/flag]

Rationale: It's mostly political. Turkish is the language of some 30% of the people living on the island I am living, and we are supposed to find a way to live together. Being able to follow their news and communicate with them, even at an individual level, will go a long way towards understanding each other.

Bonus: When I overcome the initial shyness of using a new language, it would be easy to practice the language with native speakers, who will be likely bilingual ([flag=]tr[/flag], [flag=]en[/flag]) or trilingual ([flag=]tr[/flag], [flag=]en[/flag], [flag=]el[/flag]), if over 50.

I have a knowledge of Japanese (still kinda working), so the grammar shouldn't surprise me a lot.

Materials: At the moment, I have "Teach Yourself Beginner's Turkish" Book + CD, "Turkish Grammar" a 400p reference book by a Cypriot linguist, and access to Turkish Cypriot TV channels.

I will be posting my grammar notes here, in the tr subforum, for peer review, if it's accepted by the subforum mods.

Studied some Assimil dialogues with Ektoras. Far better than studying alone and using the TY book.
I got to form a couple sentences in Turkish, for example. Using Syntax™!

I will need to organise my handwritten notes from last night.
