TAC 2013 - El Tigre Chino - es (fr)

Postby הענט » 2013-01-24, 22:22

[flag]es[/flag] I'm going to try to build some core in this language to see how far can I get with some substantial study.

[flag]fr[/flag] It's not really the highlight of the year, but I'm having it as my backup language and can add it to the mix at any point throughout the year or completely flip. :)

Mirror wrote:[flag]es[/flag] I feel almost ashamed when I compare my choice with other unilangers who are learning more exotic languages (Breton) , but I really want to dedicate this year to Spanish and see how far can I get.

No, no, don't compare yourself to anyone (especially me--I'm the only regular Unilanger here studying Breton  ). Do whatever is right for you. I should be a bit ashamed for not having more advanced Spanish myself, given I live on the Mexico/US border and literally hear Spanish everyday. But I study the languages I have a desire to learn, like my ancestral languages like Gaelic and Breton (besides, I'm not sure French or German qualify as "exotic" ).

So just study what you have the desire and motivation to study and don't worry about what other people are doing. We're here to support and encourage each other, not compete with one another. :D

Y buena suerte con tus estudios!

¿Qué es cuadra?

Una cuadra quiere decir a (city) block en inglés. Pero no se usa en España, porque hay un término diferente allí = una manzana (sí, cómo la fruta).

¡Gracias! Pensaba que cuadra fuese el nombre de la fruta en algun dialecto del español.

Hi Mirror, I would also like to take tests about the languages I know, to see if I'm A1, or A2, or B1, etc.
Are these tests available online?

I only took the test on the first website.
A1 97%
A2 90%
B1 77%
B2 67%

B2 almost passed, hehe. So I am B1.
So I correctly gave myself 2 stars. (at least according to this test)

Yes, but I am the lower B1 and you're the upper B1. :D

I tried to take the A1 test just for the hell of it. I only answered 11 questions and got 7 right. If I ever do start Spanish, I'll have a long way to go.

Haha, I don't think our Spanish levels are comparable.
You are studying it "properly", learning all the grammar.
I'm a self-taught who learnt Spanish through using it.
That's why I didn't score 100% in A1 and A2. There are some grammar parts which I didn't manage to learn though "pure practice".
While in the high levels, my Italian helps a lot in "guessing" the right thing, be it vocabulary, or grammar, or syntax.

Yes. I can imagine. :D

Lo farò. = Lo haré.

¿Qué estás haciendo?
Che stai facendo?

You can pretty much guess the approximate grammar as I can with languages like Polish or Slovenian though they are not 100% identical. :)

And it's interesting, because at first I was learning English from songs and I had learned a lot of slang before I learned the "doesn't" form. But with time I was interested in how everything works and my English became less colloquial, but of course I can still understand a lot of cultural reference jokes etc. :D

The one at spanish-test.net. I haven't done a single thing in terms of Spanish lessons since elementary school, so I guess I did alright.

This TAC is becoming such a failure. I've completely stopped learning Spanish after 3 months and am trying to revive my [flag]de[/flag].

Nonetheless I still get distracted a lot. We'll see how it's going to be played out. Eventually. :D

Biggest source of distraction: [flag]da[/flag], [flag]ja[/flag], [flag]zh.Hant[/flag] :para:
