I'm sorry I don't stop by more often myself, I'm a bit nervous to do so :para:
anyway, hopefully since it's one of my taclangs, I may be more confident in it soon :D

I'm definitely taking Czech as TAC language. I might add another one, but I'm not sure about that yet.

lichtrausch wrote:Also, your claim is utter nonsense. If you want to find out just how intolerant Japan is compared with the Western world why don't you look at how many racial hate crimes and sexuality hate crimes have been committed in Japan in the last 50 years and then compare it to any major Western country.

I did. I spent 14 weeks studying such cases as part of my Social Conflict in Modern Japan paper second semester this year. So I would say I know a thing or two :)

I have a question. We're meant to log things right? How intensively do we log? and what do we log?. I don't really want to be having to write out what I learned everyday or whatever, but is perhaps a weekly summary of progress going to be enough?

that's the idea. Tell us what books you read, what if anything you translated, did you have a conversation in the target language, did you understand something you saw/heard. Any milesstones, so we know what you've acheived so far.

 For Norwegian we already know the grammar (well, there's not a whole lot to learn anyways, it's pretty simple :P ) so we'll just be picking up tons of vocab, Scottish Gaelic is quite regular and not very difficult, and Ancient Greek and Latin, while both quite irregular, aren't that difficult. So, it's not a whole lot. 8-) At least were not as bad as Veqq who's doing like 7 that he'll never be able to stick with and will subsequently fail the challenge.

I wouldn't consider Ancient Greek or Latin very simple at all, but hey, to each his own I suppose :P

Are y'all in it to win it, or just for the experience? Like, I really don't care about the competition in anyway, I just feel that this challenge is a way for me to track my progress throughout the year and to stick with my langs.

Sounds interesting. I'm tempted to join, though I don't have that much time.
Okay, I'm jumping in :D

I'm in for a Finno-Ugric TAC:
- Hungarian : I know the basics of the grammar (but not all), I can understand and produce simple sentences, so I'm at a beginner's level. My aim to be able to read novels without the help of the dictionary and write/talk at a reasonable speed (i.e. more than five words/minute  ).

-Finnish: I scarcely know anything apart from a few sentences and words (it helps when you name your catfish names such as Kaunis-Kala...), and of course the Hakuna Matata song. My aim is also to be able to read novels without the help of the dictionary and write/talk at a reasonable speed.

I also intend to scrub my German and Latin skills, marry Icelandic, cajole my Lebanese and flirt with Turkish, but I'll leave that out of the TAC

I just feel that this challenge is a way for me to track my progress throughout the year and to stick with my langs.

The same.

Add as many as you *really* want to do. Just don't add any which you think "well, maybe someday i will study that, but not for several months"
