Polyglot translator game.

Postby Luna_Lovegood » 2011-07-26, 19:16

I have an idea, the game rule is to translate the text into as many languages as you can, you have to make one more translation than the person above you.
You have to translate the text that someone has given you, if you find it too hard you may make your own sentence but it costs you one more language.

so if I will tell you to translate "this is a book", and I have written it 3 times (in different languages, like French, Swahili and Gujarati), you have to write it at least 4 times, and if you don't like this sentence (because it's too hard etc), you may change into into other one that you write yourself, but you have to write it in one more language

Only full sentences are accepted, with Subject Object and Predicate.

I will start

[flag]vi[/flag]chị Lan ăn cơm.

[flag]pl[/flag]Lan je ryż

란[flag]ko[/flag]은 밥을 먹어

[flag]jp[/flag]蘭さんはご飯を食べる。

[flag]zh[/flag]兰吃饭

If native speakr spots mistake the next person has less sentence to make. OK, let's play!

Sophie wrote:[flag]tr[/flag] Lan pirinç ye.

Shouldn't this be: Lan pirinç yiyor?

No way I could translate this sentence in yet another five sentences though.

You may be right. But I suspect Luna_Lovegood is thinking of "Lan eats rice" as a habitual thing rather than "Lan is eating rice" since the Mandarin sentence is 兰吃饭 rather than 兰吃饭. I've also translated it into Spanish as Lan come arroz rather than Lan está comiendo arroz. :)

I think it's a strange sentence for a habitual thing, but still, what kind of form is 'ye' then, wouldn't it still be 'yer'?

Here the verb is in second person singular

melski wrote:[flag]hu[/flag] Beszél magyarul ?

but in the Hungarian sentence you have used the polite form of the verb (which is third person singular). So you should put the "-sz" ending to transform the verb into second person singular: Beszélsz magyarul?
