haha.
I was doubting myself there. I actually convinced myself that it was the 18th even though I knew it wasn't.

I don't think I'll be able to do this, it's not the kind of text I had expected. I was hoping for a less colloquial text; I'm better with those. :/

The colloquialisms are part of the challenge. But if your colloquial German isn't too good or you find a dictionary doesn't help, begin by translating the English colloquialisms into "standard English" and then go from there.

For example, if the phrase "I ain't got no dough" appeared in the text (which it doesn't), it would be ideal to find a German slang term for "money" and perhaps use a non-standard grammatical construction to represent English "I ain't". But even if your German isn''t that hot, you could change "I ain't got no dough" into normal English, "I don't have any money", and then translate that phrase into German. Yes, you have lost a bit of the flavor of the original, but you're still conveying the core meaning of the sentence.

If you really find you can't do it, let me know and I'll try to find someone else to fill in for you.

OMG I have to translate from German to French... I hope I'll be able to do that , but at least the German text is the 1st translated one in the chain so it'll possibly still make sense LOL

Yeah, I thought the same as well  that's funny. I think it's because of the Catalan thing.

Wow, this has changed, I checked yesterday and I had to translate Spanish into Catalan, which I thought 'oh this won't be fun'. With the recent changes, it is so much more interesting to translate German into Catalan.

yeah, you'd like to think so... but mind you I'm not as good at translating into german as translating from german  so this will be fun... in either case, I'm back (went off for a few days for my break between the end of spring semester and the beginning of summer semester that starts today) and I'll be looking forward to translating this asap, possibly even by tonight as I have my dictionary at home
hopefully my grammar won't be too horrible

It would have helped if it wasn't german I was translating into as now not only will I have to look up some words but I'll also have to ascertain that my grammar is at least 'acceptable'... in either case it's coming along

Note that Sean has withdrawn, and our newest member, Yagger is now the first translator for Team 2! So Aleco, that means you'll be translating from Dutch, not German as previously planned ;) Well done Yagger for stepping up to the challenge! :D

Actually I didn't notice that much colloquialism xD! Do all 3 teams translate the same piece of text?
I'm eager to see the results, but still a whole month >.<"..

I don't think it'll take that long... And in the meantime you could amuse yourself with the previous editions. :P Anyway, welcome to Unilang! :D

Yes, all 3 teams do the same, so we'll end up with 4 different English translations as well as the original, a few in French, a couple in German, and one version in several other languages too.

Normally we actually have LONGER chains, so the text gets really messed up. It will be interesting to see how this "shorter" game turns out.

And thanks again for helping out! :D

Our chain really has too much Dutchies :D

And I didn't realise we were already beginning, but I'm perfectly fine with translating from German into English! :)
