It's me!

Postby razlem » 2017-03-06, 9:06

I noticed that Spanish and German use the conjugated form of "to be" in this case (ex. calling someone on the phone), whereas English uses a null subject. Just curious to see what other languages do :)

Correcting German (adding "es", so literally this is "I am it" rather than just "I am")

[flag=]en[/flag] It's me!
[flag=]de[/flag] Ich bin's!

[flag=]es-mx[/flag] Soy yo!

Could it be regional? My family has always just used "Ich bin"

Where are they from? I've never heard that variant from either North or South Germans, nor from Austrians or Swiss.

Don't think so. I can't think of many cases where I would say "ich bin" as a whole sentence (and they would be about my existence). I'm aware that some German speakers use "ich bin" in more mundane contexts, but even then I only know it in the meaning of "ich bin dran" ("it's my turn").

No, that would be Sächsisch.

It's ungrammatical. o.O I checked to see if there is any variety that would permit this and so far, as I have suspected, I have found none.

"Me voilà" has a meaning like "here am I". As if you're presenting yourself. Unless I'm missing something.

So, correcting French. And adding Catalan.

Ahem ahem cough cough! ...but no, no one says that here, and I greatly doubt anyone in Germany does. I've never heard it in my life in this context (at least not from native speakers... I've known a Russian who does that). As said before, it's "ich bin´s".

And linguoboy is right, in my experience Sächsisch is the most scoffed at dialect by far. Also the most ridiculed in TV satire. Not without reason, I might add.
Thank you for correcting mistakes!
