I really don't know why they use ɦ when transcribing the consonant before i in Wu Chinese.

Because Shanghainese isn't real Wu Chinese, remember? ;)
To me it sounds like more [ji].

So like Mandarin?

I always found this resemblance helpful:

Turkish (tr) ayran - cold yogurt beverage
Mongolian (mn) айраг [ˈai̯rəɡ] - koumiss

I'm guessing the Catalan analogue is a Visigothic loan?

Old Frankish, actually. Catalonia originated as the Marca Hispanica of the Frankish Empire. Visgothic influence on the language was earlier and not nearly as lasting (since Hispania Citerior was the most thoroughly romanised part of the Peninsula). There was also significant migration from Occitania into Catalonia as late as the 16th century.

Aren't those more like true false friends? It doesn't seem like English has pollution with that sense anymore.

The Wiktionary entry for nusch says that it came from Latin nux. But according to the one for նուշ, the two aren't related:
The origin is unknown. The comparison with Latin nux, Proto-Celtic *knūs, Proto-Germanic *hnuts is rejected because Proto-Indo-European *knew-, reconstructed for these, cannot yield Armenian նուշ (nuš).

That's what makes this an interesting coincidence.
